I finally got the Aether 60. It feels unbelievably comfy compared to what I've had before. I'm not sure whether it is the new 2010 version or not though because the colour is definitely not the same as what's shown on the Osprey website or any other sites advertising it which is kind of like a royal blue colour which they label as Dusk. What I've received it is more like a grey type of colour with some tints of green (unless of course I am colourblind?) I've not decided yet if I'm going to send it back and get the green one instead. I'm wondering though whether the Tundra Green and Magma are the same as what is advertised too or not? I may get used to the colour over the weekend and just decide to keep it I'm not sure yet. What do you think, does my Aether 60 looke the same as.....
this Aether from the Osprey site: If this is the new version I got its drastcially different in colour so maybe there is some issue being able to accurately photograph this Dusk blue colour? Anyone else who's got the new Aether 60, 70 or 85 I'd love to know which colour you got and if its exactly the same as the Osprey site? A good backpack but the colour has confused me somewhat. John

.JPG) you got a better colour there IMO

It looks the same as mine a sort of grey/green. I agree BTW the best sack I have ever used. Steve D

Steve - When did you buy yours? Is it the 2010 new one? If so it may just be the colour couldn't be photograhed accurately on the net? Mole- Yep the colour is growing on me a bit but based on the colours advertised I still rate the royal blue type of colour higher. The one I got I'd probably rate equally with the green and orange they do, or at least that they advertised. Not sure if the 2010 in Tundra Green or Magma Orange would be the same as on the site either now?

You lucked in there, that blue you was expecting was horrible, instead you got a nice low-profile green.. gratz.

Lee - I still think the royal blue colour is better. I am just wondering though whether it is the new version or not, or, whether they just were not able to accurately capture the true colour of the product? Looking at a couple of videos on you tube the tundra green colour looks to be accurate. I've not seen any real life examples of the magma or dusk though. Has anyone else on the forum recently got the Aether 60 or 70 in Dusk, and is your colour the same as the Osprey site or different?

the pack cut looks the same but it is hard to say with any degree of accuracy. Wasn't there any documentation? For that matter surely when you brought the pack there was a colour option, I wouldnt think that bright blue would be labelled as dusk, if i wasn't sure I'd would email Osprey and ring the company you brought of and ask questions.

Yeah, the Dusk Blue colour is the one on the Osprey site and the hundreds of websites out there that list it in the photo as the 2010 one. It is a bright royal blue type of colour so completely different to the colour I was sent though as you say the pack does look the same style. The documentation with the pack and the labels etc do say Dusk as the colour that's why its confusing. It's really strange. I've seen the clip on you tube of the green tundra pack and that looks the exact same colour as advertised. However the official Osprey video of the Aether and Ariel series the colour of that Aether on the video looks the same as mine. Their video is from fall 2009 and looks to have been from the US. I'm still not decided what to do about that I may send back for refund on Monday and try getting the green one instead, or try see if they have it in the blue colour that they advertise in the photos.

You could try messaging Rob the Osprey Rep who posts on here about their packs from time to time; he's been very helpful with enquiries I've made. But I have to agree with the others, that the colour you ended up with is rather nice!

I think from the photo it looks like your pack has the J-shaped zip on the back which would make yours the 2010 model. I got the 2009 Aether 70 because a) it was on sale b) I fancied the yellow/grey colour combination. However when it arrived it was more of a orange than a yellow, but nice enough. Goes to show that colour reproduction over the internet is only approximate. Great pack whatever the colour though
|
 |
If it has the J zip, and a sleeping bag section zip, it is the 2010. I have the same one, and it is awesome Oh, and that colour is the 2010, the earlier version was a "two tone" type colour....

I'm eyeing up a Aether 60 or 70 to replace my aging Berghaus C7 65+10. Which body length did you get (i'm 6'4" so will try and find a large). Finding a 60 seems tricky, i can only see one website that stocks them in the UK. Also i like the look of the Magma, but nowhere seems to have them!
|
 |
Youll have problems finding a 70 litre, they are not many out there. George Fisher have them in 60 long, and snow and rock had a 70 on the website, but medium only.
|
 |
Cotswold have the 70 in M/L, as do Outside. I've seen a 60 on offer at £125.96 as well, but only in Dusk colour. J zip looks darn handy, plus the compressions system looks a lot better than my Berghaus, which just about manages to tuck away the side/bottom pouches if you need to. Is it worth getting the belt moulded or is it a bit of a gimmick?
|
 |
The belt is comfy, out of the box. I havnt had mine molded, and I dont think I will.

Hi All,
Sorry for the confusion. The Dusk Blue (as per the pack you got) is correct. The blue on the website is wrong. Thanks for pointing this out - we will get it changed ASAP.
Best Regards

And if you get in quick George fisher has them for £100 in medium and large in the blue colour. Ooh tempted

This is a good deal, but bear in mind that it's the 2009 version on sale not the new 2010 version. The main differences being the 2009 version doesn't have the J zip access, or the stow-on-the-go feature or the sleeping bag base compartment. The Airscape backpanel is also different and we changed the frame and fabric.
The 2009 Aether/Ariel is still a great pack, but the 2010 version is better.
Regards
Rob

If you buy it from one of Ospreys premier shop retailers they will mould the belt for free. However if you wear it for long enough the belt will mould itself to your shape however.

 >The 2009 Aether/Ariel is still a great pack, but the 2010 version is better. I've used the previous model for three years, it's a great pack IMO. The 2010 version is about 400 grammes heavier if the specifications I read are correct. In addition, I don't see the need for a sleeping bag compartment zip and J zip access. It's fairly easy to pack a sleeping bag through the top of my pack. Would I buy the Aether 60 today? No, it's just plain too heavy and over-featured.
