Just been thinking about irony. We're on a thread about SUL and people have been posting heavy / long threads. All that and it was only a troll in the first place.

Quick poll -  How do you classify yourself? SUL, UL, L, normal, H, UH or SUH? I guess the para's, Hereford boys and RM COmmandos would come under SSUH and that skurka bloke is SSUL. I'm normal or at least in backpacking circles I am. Although people I've been talking to reckon my 8-12kg load (with 5 days food) is quite an impressively light load. I still think I am a long way behind Mike in lightweight stakes (I still use the odd alloy ones! Even my Ti ones are 6g each. My toothbrush (when I take one) still has a handle. I've not drilled out my pot lifter a bit more or gotten my hands flame proof so I don't need them. I'm really not trying at all. ).

I fully agree with you TTG...

what I am saying is that anyone who is selling a specialist item (and high value will attract more attention than, say, some ali foil) needs to bear in mind that this is a broad church and that  they may well get a ..how much...for that...reaction.

Sometimes that reaction will be silent...sometimes it wont.

They also need to bear in mind that selling trying to sell a high value specialist item here may well not be tapping into the most appropriate market for that item and so they will, by definition, be open to comment.

Which is why, for some things that I collect, you wont see them on here.  They arent appropriate for this forum.

Edit: and I'm not UL or SUL either.  I like my butty box ans SS flask

SS flask?

I'd keep quiet about that if I were you, Simon - wrong forum!

Not Star Trek figurines, by any chance...

;-)

Can we drop the knife thing now...?

CP...I admit to nothing.

But did you know that Southport regularly hosts a Trekkie convention...live long and prosper.

HAH , I normaly go as light as possible without removing fun factors its the people that think that going as light as humanly possible improves your hiking experience, when its clear to most people that the opposite applies that i was on the soapbox about.

I might get my gear out later and prove it by showing you some homemade sandels and fishing kit any ultralighter at least would be pround to own.

I think it improves their hiking experience, Lee. They aren't telling you it would necessarily improve yours.

But you're telling me i'm not enjoying myself Lee. Do you honestly think i would enjoy myself more if i stuck 5kg of water in my pack just to make it heavier?

I'm sure your soul would approve, Mike. A little suffering's good for it, I gather

That's just greed. A bottle is enough.

Decanted into a lightweight platy of course.

My soul has suffered enough Kate.

His soles have suffered enough, hence the SUL approach.
