I just today got sent a Simply Hike company website email advertising this weekends coming 'massive sale tent clearance weekend' 26th - 27th - 28th, with up to 50% off tent prices. Might be worthwhile having a look, you never know! You might well see a half price tent you already actually wanted to buy! And none of us for sure will ever feel we truly have enough tents likely, will we!

'Now is the winter of our discount tents.'

That is always the funny, obviously Shakespeare inspired misquote that comes straight to my mind still, always at this time of year, upon hearing of a winter tent sale anyplace at all. I recall almost laughing out loud, looking out of the window whilst riding the bus one day years ago; upon seeing that sales slogan written on a London outdoors store's window, way back in the eighties somewhere or other near theatre land there.

I discovered this week online a rather nice website selling a lot of good discounted outdoors books, amongst its general book stock. It is www.pickabook.com

I see too they do the excellent and informative instructional dvd's 'Winter Essentials' and 'Alpine Essentials' there at a rather good reduced price. I shall most definitely have to treat myself to one of the former, as already have the lattter dvd. A heck of a lot cheaper than paying full price, plus then postage and packing on top, from stores like Tiso's online for those items - for sure!

(NB - There is a minimum order value of fifteen ponds though here to qualify on this book site for their free postage and packing rates. That is though simply seemingly the equivalent of getting a free book second to the dvd, if you take into account what I paid Tiso online for the other Alpine skills dvd alone there already, just earlier on this year!)

As I revealed yesterday night, on the Tracy Emin tent artwork picture thread upon the forum, there's a good very cheap bargain priced Gelert pop-up tent deal going right now, at both the associated partner outdoors retailers Venturesport.co.uk and Gearzone.co.uk online. This is a big Gelert pop-up tent in fern green. It usually retails between the rrp of £29.99 and up to the max rrp of £39.99. Even today on some websites it is being advertised for sale at £34.99!

At both the stores below though it is on sale at the clearance offer price of just £16.99, and so although there is a delivery charge on top to pay too of about £4 or so, it is still a great deal for a little summer or festivals use single skin basic tent here.

Aku Isolo boots in The Outdoor Warehouse in Windermere at £55. Not in 10 or 10.5 unfortunately but there seemed to be a good selection of other sizes. In the shop only I think, but maybe also on a phone call ? Worth a try.

The Simply Hike tent sale bonanza weekend goes on for one day more ending this sunday night, and lots of tents are half price including lots of nice Coleman ones. And they do include a good few three man ones. It is possible I believe, to also use the 10% off voucher code I gave above here too, at the checkout for these half price sales goods.http://www.simplyhike.co.uk/SearchResults.aspx?Reset=1&ShowSale=1

Or small link. -

NB - If the link fails here, then instead simply enter the tent sale area of the site direct from their site homepage by clicking on the top tent sale banner there.

For this weekend only too the Robens tents range is on sale for half price, plus you can also then try using the offer code I put onto the Bargains Thread here on OM to get a further ten percent off too, that should cover the postage costs. code is 'hke98' which should be input in the offer codes box at checkout of basket to give 10% off the order

For those with the access to Costco, they are doing 4 pairs of merino wool mix hiking socks for £9. They are suspiciously like the Smartwool Light Hiker socks (exactly the same composition). They also have merino wool mid layers for £14.

There is a quite good half price postage and packing offer on right now at 7 day shop.com, just this weekend started, at www.7dayshop.com according to the latest sales email I got from them; and this is only offered though till this monday 6th October at 1 pm.A saving of two pounds on the postage costs there, reduced for this short time to just £1.95 per order. They do various good outdoors lines there still, like compasses by Recta, and the very good American AMK survival and medical kits items too.

If you have one of the older modes of XGK stove like myself, then you might like to know that Taunton Leisure are selling the bigger more stable updated pan support arms for the model at half price at just £3.99 in their sale section right now, or in the stove section on the website there too. This is called the XGK Panwire Set. Postage there is still three pounds ninety five pence though on top. It might be worth getting if one wants to update the older stove, and too take a look through the other goodies in the sale there as well to spread the cost overall of that one set postage charge - like I am going to do. I'm after a couple of the UCO bottle pouring spouts as well I think. There sure are a lot of fairly decent half priced bits there. Lots of ladies stuff in their sale as well by the way. www.tauntonleisure.com

Morrisons are doing BOGOF on triple packs of Jaffa Cakes (real ones), so you can buy 72 for the price of 36

Don't tell Jamie Bassnett, if he tried to stuff in that many, he'd have to change his name to Mr Creosote!!

Someone's got too much time on their hands if they are weighing batteries. Try going for a walk.
