"spoke to the guys in the store and told me that they had been recently bought by the company who has lillywhite/lonsdale/karrimor etc and that the plan is to have permanet 20% discount and good offers from time to time.." Let's all make the most of it while the decent stuff is left and before they start offering cheap tat like the rest of the empire.

neil i did see some lonsdale kicking around but the guys in the store had "hidden" them well. my guess (which probable does not worth much) would be that they would be still offering brands that would "work" with their low pricing (hence karrimor/lonsdale/stormlite) and get ridd of the other brands? (they were offerring Icebreaker/HH relatively cheap without seeing new stock in the shop).

http://www.dvd.co.uk/landingpage_374.htm Some good two for a tenner outdoors subject books bargains on right now at this website here. One good one is a C2C biking guide, and there's a couple of good OS maps including the Kielder water/forest area one. Not to mention great books like In Patagonia by Bruce Chatwin, and Into the Wild also. I think even the Andes survivors tale Alive is there if I remember correctly as well. Come to think of it also, there's the Lonely Planet book of Tales from Nowhere - an adventure guide included in the titles there.

Was in Field & Trek, Coventry earlier today. They have Raichle Mountain Trail boots for £30. Some people have had problems with the soles falling apart on these boots, but I think that was an earlier model with a different type of sole. I have a pair of an earlier model of these boots (they haven't fallen apart) and I think the last on this new model is different from the earlier one (not such a good fit for me).

Thanks to martin barry for the B&Q Thermawrap heads up. Cosy now built...

Thermawrap makes an excellent insulating mat in winter Captain, though you probably know this. I use it under another mat and no cold comes through. Brilliant stuff.
|
 |
Thanks from me too, the Mrs picked up a roll for me today. Gonna make a hat from it.

 > Thermawrap makes an excellent insulating mat in winter Captain I think I'll stick with expanded polythene (aka Jiffyfoam). This is also a remarkably efficient insulator; I discovered it 24 years ago standing on cold and snowy railway platforms. I carried a small piece in my bag , and either stood on it or sat on it. Result: toasty warm feet (considering I have Raynaud's, a remarkable achievement), or a warm and dry bot. I now carry a piece in my rucksack as a sitmat/casualty underblanket. It's tough as old boots too. Sorry, got away from the bargain thread a bit. BTW: the pan above is one of the Blacks hard anodised pans I suggested were a bargain recently. Two nesting pans and cups for £15 (vs the inner pot & cup for £13). i.e. the bigger pot & cup costs £2...

Limited time sale on Blacks website this Thursday 7 August between 1.00pm and 5.00pm. Enter code limited20 at shopping basket stage and get 20% off all prices. - Wrote Ashley. I wonder if that is a further 20% off, on top of some of the 50% off sale items deals they have now then too? Edit - Yep! Just checked my email in my own inbox too on this a bit earlier, and it states for definite that the extra 20% off offer is indeed 'on everything'.

cp... what is the plastic container you have there with your pans?? do you stick it inside on your travels? Another question, do the pans have measurements up the sides of them?

I think the Cotswold sale has been previously mentioned - I fancied the Rab Generator at £100 down to £50 - blue only though. Found Go Outdoors had it in black for £80 or £90, so rung up and they agreed to beat Cotswold on their "Price Promise". Final price was £45 delivered - arrived this morning. Roll on winter!

What a toerag Paid £55 delivered for my Cotswold Generator and I'd have preferred black!

My first post on this excellent forum. Karrimor Airspace 25 daysack, £13.49, reduced from £44 on Amazon. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Karrimor-Airspace-25L/dp/B000OZ8VBQ I actually got mine from a Sports Direct shop, so saved on P&P. This was mentioned previously in another post in April, so I'm surprised it's still on offer. I wouldn't pay £44 for it, but it's comfortable and does the job.

 > cp... what is the plastic container you have there with your pans?? It's a one litre pot I found in one of those marvellous 'pile it high, flog it cheap' Indian* shops in Slough. It's marked as 'Aristo Store Wel-201', but a recent google only revealed this company: http://www.ruchihousewares.com/storewel_range.htm It cost me £1.30, and was originally bought in the hope that my Titan kettle would fit inside it; it doesn't. It fits perfectly inside the Blacks 1300ml pan, though. It has all the features I suggested in my Alpkit CoLab (slightly tongue-in-cheek) competition entry ("A Plastic Bottle. And a Plastic Pot") > do you stick it inside on your travels? The cosy, pan, pot and burner all nest like Russian dolls. I've since found a 'Cookwell' pot that the Titan fits inside perfectly, but at an extortionate £1.99... > Another question, do the pans have measurements up the sides of them? No, the pans don't have measurements on them. I'll probably mark up the pot, though. * using the term to refer to the entire Indian sub-continent.

In Tesco this evening I saw a car windscreen sunshade made from what looks suspiciously like Thermawrap. It cost £3 and was obviously a big sheet.
