From next Thursday, Aldi will have a three man tent for £25. It weighs 5kilos, so not a backpacker, but it doesn't pretend to be. Also 12mm sleeping mats for £3, sleeping bags, rucksack etc.

Argos Extra do a 'Trangia' style burner with a wire stand in a plastic zip pouch for £7.99.
Its no replacement for a good cooker, but for a day's outing when all you want is a cuppa or some soup it's *B* marvellous.
I've added a folded sheet of tin foil for a windscreen, and an old 100ml(just enough for cuppa)oil bottle for the meths ...they all fit in the zip pouch.
You can only just get a Trangia pan grab for that. Mind my Trangia is over twenty years old and appart from a new burner ( which will go eventualy) its as good as new so maybe they are worth the extra.

 Craghopper Lovers Of The World....
Debenhams have got all of their Craghopper stuff on sale right now. At least, they do in Aberdeen so I'm guessing everywhere else too. Not sure of prices, but saw lots of 10% to 40% off, signs.

Ordered the Cotswold catalogue online a while back. Didn't buy anything. 20% off voucher through the door today. :o)

Can't remember who mentioned it on a thread elsewhere but Argos are doing BOGOF on lithium batteries AA/AAA (codes 980/3954, 980/4207). Ideal for those headtorches and GPS units.
Boots are also doing a deal on batteries at the moment (including Lithium) - 3 for 2.
Just how good are Lithium comapared with Alkaline and NIMH??

so what about these LIDL walking poles. has anyone picked some up, 6.99 each. went to 3 lidl stores yesterday and was told they sold out in a few hours :-O
That was £6.99 a pair Cruiser, but they sold out in a couple of hours. I snapped the bottom section of one first time out, one top section lock is iffy, the strap on one handle wasn't attached properly and the other handle came off. So you didn't miss much - great price, crap build quality. Should have bought 2 pairs - one to use and one for spares!

this morning in my local argos - 'not as good as last years' pro-action one man for £9.99. cheap mats and mummy sleep bags. why was i in argos? to return the indiglo watch (£19.99 in argos - £70 in cotswolds or snow & rock) that broke after 10 weeks.
I got the £9-99 Argos tent out of curiosity. Its total crap. Have posted it down to my 5 yr old nephew to play in. Not a patch on the previous version, which I would dearly love to buy another for spares, at the same price. Also, it was good to see Chris Townsend at TGO do a review of the Aldi softshell jacket less than 3 weeks after it came on sale. I wasnt taken with it , but was pleased to see that he thought it good value and would do the job for those on a limited budget, who aren't brand concious.
