Right, I'm declaring war on the Russian vine. If you don't hear back from me by dinner time, send in the UN!
|
 |
Afternoon from sunny Ayrshire. TBW notvery well - seems to be suffering from the effect of codeine in tablets she took Looks like Chelsea are pushing us down to 4th place. At least Man Utd are still playing catch up with us! Until later this afternoon I guess...

Ooh dear, poor TBW Here's a news report to cheer her up. Taming the Russian vine Allied forces are pleased to announce the withdrawal of troops following a very successful campaign against the invasion of MK's back yard by a highly aggressive and swift moving Russian vine. As troops deployed, it quickly became apparent that the vine had over-extended itself, and swift-moving allied ground forces rapidly cleared a path into the yard, expressing delight at the newly developed weapon, Garden Shears, which allowed them to advance with virtually no casualties. The ground campaign was followed by a high-level precision assault from the upper reaches of the Step Ladder which allowed skilled operatives to gain control of the air-space above the yard. Vine fatalities, which amounted to two large Vale of Glamorgan garden trimming recycling bags, will be dealt with by the appropriate authorities on Tuesday morning. Casualties were remarkably light - just a couple of scratches on the arms from the hand-to-hand fighting at the very end of the campaign. There were a few civilian casualties - some snails - but Intelligence was unable to determine whether these were innocent victims of the Vine's use of 'snail shields', or were insurgent snails preparing a terrorist campaign from the cover of the Vine. The yard has now been sprayed with Agent Orange (aka Pathclear) to prevent weeds sympathetic to the Vine from spreading. HAIL THE ANTI-VINE FORCES!!!

 PMSL Kate!

Hope TBW gets better soon, and Jaimie and everyone else who is feeling poorly

Of course what isn't clear from the news report is whether allied forces had at some earlier time welcomed the Russian Vine, possibly even inviting it in to their back yard as a welcome ally, to wage a campaign by proxy agaist other unwelcome and undesirable groups? Did they supply it, nurture it and train it, realising only too late that it had become a monster they could no longer control, following its own agenda at odds with theirs, and indulging in extreme forms of mission creep? So do tell us Kate, was it already there or did you plant it?!
|
 |
It was already there - a plant, left by the previous occupants. Over the years, allied forces have attempted to keep the Vine in check by various means, including low-level guerrilla campaigns and occasionally diplomacy. Weapons of mass destruction remain an option, but allied command has been reluctant to employ these (or threaten to employ them, or threaten to possess them) lest there be an invasion by a stronger power eager to take possession of the extensive natural resources contained within the back yard, or, following their use, there be an accusation of crimes against plant-dom. However, this latest aggressive move on the part of the Vine has gone beyond garden shear-rattling, and, regretfully, vinicide is being considered.

or maybe not...

Glad the war against unwanted plants is doing well and I hope you all enjoyed your drugs this weekend. I managed a triumphant bit of rallying around for another late night last night and have done some quite feeble climbing today (initially in the rain which shows that I am made of the right kind of stuff even if I'm a rubbish climber). I'm now even more knackered than yesterday. *Sending get well messages northwards*

What an entertaining weekend of posts, lol at Kate v Russian vine, it was so nice to come home to a good read after a 'fun filled' weekend And we didn't even manage to see the sea The nearest we got to playing with a bucket and spade was Matt emptying out Auntie's gutters with a trowel. An effort worth at least nine hundred and sixty four brownie points. That was just as well because he had just lost 964 points by not managing to eat his brown rice pudding. Aye Yarmouth is grim but if we are to be accurate our destination was Gorleston, the posh end of town. If Yarmouth is the granite of Dartmoor, then Gorleston is the limestone of the Dolomites. I guess only Matt and Fossil Bluff (who will not be reading this anyway) will appreciate that analogy, the rest of you will assume I am spouting nonsense as usual Ho hum. So the Wedding at Chester Zoo went well - hoorah. I do hope you have photos, Cath, I'd love to see them sometime. Good grief, TBW, your weekend sounds painful and here am I, just relieved that my midge bites are finally fading away. Take care and I hope you feel better soon. Hope you continue to improve and get sorted, Jamie, at least you have Nicky and a new rucksack to cuddle And I hope that Jake avoids eating teasels in future. Is everyone else ok?
