Hi Kate, sunny here now after the squally showers of rain but not too cold ( 6.5C ).

I was managing to put holes in the soles of my work boots while digging in the garden with a spade without a flat plate for you to put your foot on when digging, I noticed the Pogu's had a plate type thing that would spread the weight so I thought I would try them, ordered now anyway, at least they can be popped into a rucksack in case they are needed, better safe than sorry

edit, just found this photo taken at Dundonnell a ffew years ago.

Goat Rock ( click on photo to enlarge )

It's hard on the eyes when the road and everything around is white, better safe than sorry though, Maria, and no dings in Noddy either .

Lots of snow still up the Valleys in spite of the rain. Roads pretty nasty at times with snow, then there was the rain and the fog.... what fun!

Boing!

Evening,

No snow here in Moidart Rain eventually stopped so we went in search of otters to a hide on Loch Sunart but no sign of the little sods

We then ventured into the Salen Hotel to watch the rugby where we were made to feel very welcome amongst the chaos - very enjoyable despite the result of the match. Suspect it may become the local for this stay

Well no snow here. and the freezing icicles now also seem to be melting..

Enjoying a cup of tea in bed this morning.. bloody hell my legs ache....tiring work leading the party up to top of Skiddaw, kicking the steps in the snow whilst it's blowing a hoolie blizzard..... managed without crampons till we were heading down, and had to use them on the icy path

....it was tremendous fun though..... i need to start getting out more again.... perhaps a wild camp is on the cards for next weekend...

Good morning AR, glad the headaches gone... mine took 2 whole days to clear

Morning Maria, your outing sounds like hard work, I'm sure you're glad you got to the top though , walking in snow is hard work .

You didnt loose your crampons in the card game then .

The sun's clearing things up a bit here, not sure what to do.

It's not good walking on frozen ground when the top half and inch has thawed, its like wearing rollerskates < not good on a slope >, there's a path that goes from the little climbers hut at Dundonnell ( blue and white door at the side of the road ) towards An Teallach, never been up it before, but not sure, its calmish at present though .

edit < again> scrap the above as its going to rain, dont want to drive 40mins round trip to stand in the rain, i can do that here and save the fuel.

Glad you're headaches cleared though .

edit, you want to use Millys fizzy bath while the opportunity arises, thats got to help the little leggies .

Don't know where Skip is lately...

Ullo Maria, Ullo Bennachites all,

The reason for my absence is that I was in bed for two days nursing a real humdinger of a cold - I've used a rainforest's worth of tissues, taken a rucksack full of Strepsils, rubbed gallons of Vick onto my chest, shivered under two duvets and generally acted as sorry for myself as only blokes know how

All together now... "Awwwwww"

That aside, all is tickety boo! Definitely better this morning (though my nose is as red as Rudolph's).  And, to celebrate my recovery, I awoke to a very pretty snowscape. It won't last long - in fact, it's melting now.

Patience, dear girl, patience. It may take a while before the goldies find it. Add some peeled sunflower seeds to your ordinary feeders - goldfinches love that too. It's wortyh persevering because they really are the most attractive little birds.

Coincidentally, I've just been out replenishing my feeders too. I always sprinkle some seed and dried mealworms on the grass (or, today, on the snow) so that the ground-feeding birds get a look in too.

While on my bird-feeding soapbox, by the way, don't forget to put a pot or two of weater out and to top it up with tepid water through the day - when there is frost, the birds often find it difficult to find unfrozen water to drink.

AR, I don't often see siskins in my garden. Saw a nuthatch (well, a pair, actually) t'other day which pleased me no end. You'd certainly know if you saw a goldfinch as they are such a distinctive bird

Hi Skip glad your feeling a bit better, staying in bed is the best place for it.

I like the pic of the Goldfinch, dont think I've seen them up here though, dont suppose you want as rabbit do you .

I put an edit in my last post when I saw your appearance but I couldnt have "saved" it . Sunny spells up here but threatening showers appearing now and again.

Maria must be rejuvenating her saucepan stock to a noisey tune .

Hey, Maria, thats quiet a hike you had the other day ( just looked at map ) now I see why you were on about starting early, must have taken a while to get there and as you say, even longer to get home afterwards , liked the photos though .

Getting dusk here now.

Well we've had a great wander round Castle Tioram and are now out at Ardnamurchan Point where they have just switched the lighthouse on. No sunset though: -(

Seen a heron, cheeky Robin, tufted ducks and shags. Mae bloody otters though: -(

Time to head back to put the fire on: -)
