Michael beat me to that one..that's definitely the place for cheapest maps I found; and a link originally shared to the forum last year by Parky I believe, if I remember at all correctly! Everywhere seems now to be trying to sell off the OS maps cheaper - even Go Outdoors - but not as cheap as Dash4It seem to be able to do!

Wow! I just suddenly realised what an old thread this is resurrected there! From 2002!
So let's go even further back. Most of my maps of Scotland, all of the North and Cairngorms and the Coe and everything in between cost me four shillings and sixpence; six shillings canvas backed. Some I got at a John Menzies sale for two shillings. And you know what - the hills are still in the same place. Two of the most useful are ,(sound of noses being turned up), the OS Tourist maps of the Cairngorms and Glencoe; both areas that require multiple maps to get total coverage. These two maps are identical in scale and content to the normal ones but ignore the grid and simply cover the areas mentioned above. And the older contours and colours are still superior to the current ones.
Fencer I have two old linen backed 1" OS maps of Durness/Cape Wrath and down as far as Kylescu [pre-bridge!] and the amount of detail is astounding...as you say the mountains are still the same and there are tracks shown on maps that don't occur on the newer 50K maps - but are still there. If you have any of these then they are worth hanging on to
Many libraries loan out OS maps these days. That's pretty cheap!
But as with everything SB, it's nice to have your own. The only thing to be careful about with these older, like ancient, maps is the mag variation which is quite different from now.
Dont worry too much about the Magnetic Variation. The rate of change is quite small and a peek at an up to date map will give the current variation.
Or get memory Map and print what you need when you need them.

Am I the only one who finds threads resurrected from 6 years ago by people with 1 post who point to a website a bit suspicious? Smacks of sneaky commercial advertising to my mind? Maybe I'm just overly suspicious.

The thought has crossed my mind a few time Roger.

You mean...by someone working for Ordnance Survey?!!

Welcome to the forum there anyways James.

Ebay seller "meteodale" sells loads, I got a 2008 OL28 (O/S Explorer map of Dartmoor) for 5.45 + £1.25 postage, bargain. I have got Multimaps with everywhere mapped (quite a few in 3d too) and can print and laminate maps but I still like to have a good old fashioned map with me.

Hi there, Just come across this thread when tracing some links to our site. Just to say that I took over running www.mapandcompass.co.uk at the start of April 2009. Sorry James if the service was a bit ropey in March last year, but I can promise you that I'm available by phone and email now, and if you look at our customer reviews on google, you'll see that since I took over running the company we've been getting great reviews all the way (see our reviews here http://www.google.co.uk/products/seller?cmi=65169294307950592&q=expedition+4+compass ). I don't usually post links to our site on forums, as I know that people want to keep forums free from "stealth advertising", but I thought I should set things straight with regards to the comments above. Kind regards, Ian Cross Map and Compass
