Can anyone guide me to a waterproof brimmed hat with a brim thats pretty stiff. I have looked at Marmot precip safari(cant seem to find in UK) and TNF Hyvent Hikers hat.I have an Australian Drizabone Slouch hat but the brim is disappointingly floppy.Any suggestions please ???

Why not strike out and buy any suitable hat and then add an after market waterproofing product to it?

You use to be able to buy golfers hats that were like a trilby, but coated with PU

Tilley hat?

Get a Tilley hat. The brim is stiff and they are waterproof and bombproof!

I did consider the Tilley T3 but would like a look first.Didnt want to look like a cowboy or a "tourist".No offence intended !I dont suppose anone has experience of the Marmot Safari or TNF Brimmer or Hyvent..look ok but concerned over the stiffness of the brim.

With all the garish colours and names on some of the outdoor kit today, who gives a toss whether you look like a cowboy or tourist? If it keeps you dry, protects you from the sun, doesn't flop all over your face or what ever you want it to do, stuff what people think.

It's you that's wearing it and you're getting the benefit.

If that's not a comfort just think how stupid the chav's looked with their hoods up in the weather we had last week! You won't look that bad!!

:-))

As I said, havent dismissed Tilley. If its worth the £25 or so more than other makes I have seen and it suits my purpose then I will go for it..I'm sure its quality but but the price makes me want to be very sure.

tilley hats are awesome, they are strong, elephant proof UV protective and loads of other stuff

also they float which can be helpful

if you do want it waterproof just gve it a spray of tx direct

I bought my Tilley hat in a UK stockists and was able to try it on first although I was more concerned about fit than looks.
I think I emailed Tilley and they gave me the nearest stockist.

as tilley do their hats in proper hat sizes it will fit perfectly allowing a liitle gap all the way round for extra ventilation.
it won't fall off. and in very windy conditions you can impersonate a mountie with the chin and head straps and it definitely won't fall off unless you have a detachable head.
as mentioned afore, give it a waterproof spray.
it is worth the dosh!

BUT- Tilley's look SILLY (and cost a bomb)

If you want a silly hat, try one of the silly berghaus goretex caps.

When do Tilleys look silly?
When they are shielding your face, neck and ears from the sun? Or is it when they are not being blown off your head in strong winds and rain?
It is a quality hat and quality never has come cheap.

Maybe a little leather number?

It's what i have at the moment, not so tilly but more crocadile dundee an austrailan bush hat.

cool in the sun and waterproof too.

Seemed to have opened up a can of worms here. The great Tilley debate !!Considering looking at Tilley T3.If its comfortable, stiff brim and does the job then I'll be a happy man.My Drizabone Slouch hat is still cracking but oh the brim flopping is getting me down !

Thanks Gearboy..it is what I'm looking for and definately worth a closer look. Have you got one ?
Show/hide user stats
no, just seen them in a few stores, the brim was foam so it floats

Has anyone tried the leather barmah hats?
