 Getting back to Funghi... I have just lifted up my groundsheet footprint for my Vaude mk2 and it has picked up various strains of fungus. Has anyone ever washed a footprint?

I was rather thinking of the funghi. I just read the "How Clean is Your Kit" section and it talks about using hydrogen peroxide for killing it off. Sounds a tad extreme. Any other ideas?
I think I have some Cuprinol 5 Star treatment somewhere :-)

Well if you consider that it's perfectly safe to put 30 vol hydrogen peroxide in your earhole to clean wax out, IN THEORY it shouldn't harm it.
Although (craven disclaimer) I would be happier about putting a solution of detergent on my ear than on my tent...and I have dermatitis.

It's a very old-fashioned way to dissolve earwax - self-treatable, too.
Just tip up head and pour in a bit of 30 vol (from traditional chemists' shops for about 50p) and wait for the fizzing to stop.
Better than waiting 6 months for syringing ;o)

 a useful general purpose disinfectant and mouthwash too ....with the added benefit of it bleaching your teeth!

Those 'Steradent' tablets that are used for cleaning dentures are a good effervescent bleaching agent. I've cleaned my camelbak with one of those broken in 2 and dropped into a filled bladder overnight. They're also pretty good at clear sink disposals...Oh, and the best use of all is to put a couple in a sink of hot water with your whites.

 I never have problems with fungus in my platypus because I rinse it, take the bite valve off, stuff some paper towels into it and hang it up for a few days until it is thoroughly dried. Fungus will only grow when it is damp.

Actually JJ, yes I use newspaper to clean my windows...but I dont have wallpaper so the bread I use for cleaning grease of metal and glass.

 how does bread clean wallpaper ? Don't you just end up with breadcrumbs everywhere ?

Some crumbs, yes, but it removes fingermarks and general scud without wetting and spoiling the paper. It saves having to redecorate just because of marks round light switches.
I don't do it but me ma used to.

Any ENT bod will tell you in this day and age NOT to do as you suggest but then they also tell you not to poke anything smaller than your elbows into your ears.
Funny thing is of about 5 people attending my A&E unit with perforated tympani over the last year, three have been ENT bods being too enthusiastic with cotton buds.

i stuff scrunched up kitchen towel in mine - so much more absorbent and cheaper than a plastic gizmo (tip: dry damp towel in oven and re-use - up to 10,000 times)
