 With these very warm days but cooler mornings/evenings I find I'm relying on an old fashioned long sleeved walking shirt (with button tabs for rolling the sleaves up) more and more. So that I've got options whilst it's in the wash I could do with another one or two.
Mines an ancient Lowe Alpine job and unfortunately they don't seem to currently do them. There aren't many reviews but if anyone has any recommendations I'd be grateful. Craghoppers seem to do a couple at reasonable prices which look okay. Any other suggestions - have Paramo improved their sizing or are the necks still undersized? I'm roughly a 46" Chest with a 17 1/2" - 18" collar and whilst I don't mind a loose-ish fit obviously don't want to buy a wind sail just to be able to breath...

Oh and I'm wanting something wicking rather than thermal - I can just about cope with micro-grid at the moment but really would rather avoid fleece until it drops a bit...

 I bought a Berghaus Tech T for exactly the same reason a couple of weeks ago and have been delighted with it. It's got long sleeves and being dri-flo wicks exceedingly well. Cost about £15 from the big shop between the M6 and kendal.

Thanks Dave - I've tried Tech T (in short sleeve) and liked the feel and wicking but found for my usage it wasn't a robust enough fabric.

 I sometimes wear a Garmont shirt when camping. Looks like an ordinary checked shirt, but it's a 100wt fleece affair and is a lovely thing indeed.
Ah, my old wool karrimor trekking shirt, them was the days...

 Peter Storm do a shirt which matches, was £20 about a year ago. It's fairly lightweight, I normally use it in high summer (Thursday,18th August this year)when I want to cover up.

How can you not notice it? It's huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge and has a petrol statio jjst next to it.

 I love my old long sleeve 3yr old Tech T. Its just the 'right' weight for me.
I got a present recently; a TNF [ElCap?] Powerdry T shirt.. List price £35.. and not as good IMHO as the Berghaus or even the Aldi Coolmax ones at £4-99 earlier in the year.

Millets and Blacks are their usual wonderful selves deeming long-sleeved shirts summer only stock... aarrggh short-sleeved I could understand but...
Field & Trek didn't have much - okay Craghoppers shirts but not in XXL.
Am I right in thinking North Face A5 series stuff is fashionwear only soggy pure cotton?

The 'Big Shop between the M6 and Kendal' is actually between Kendal and Ings, IF it's LGO. So, from the M6, go past Kendal and continue towards Windermere etc and it's on the right just after the road becomes single carriageway. It's at Plantation Bridge.
If you go to Ings, you'll not find any outdoor gear (unless you count Jeeps!) but you could find the Watermill, which used to be a really nice real ale etc pub (not been there for a while so it might still be)

I *DID* say it was NEAR Ings....Ings petrol station is on the driver's side of the road as you go north so easier to spot :o)

 I don't know about TNF A5 series. I bought one of their shirts this summer (don't know model and marque I'm afraid) and it's made from 65% modal and 35% polyester. It certainly does what it says on the can i.e. it wicks away moisture extremely well and, in fact, is my fav. shirt for not too strenuous walking.

Thanks - I've had their non-A5 shirts before and found they worked well. As I can't find anything locally I think I'll have to trawl the web and hope for a bargain.

Try Rohan.co.uk, for the Expedition II Shirt LS. Bought this, a short sleeve shirt & cargo trousers for the Honeymoon to Morocco in July. Feels like cotton but wicks away sweat due to its cottom/polyester mix. Recommend them

Powerdry always seems to come out tops - www.llbean.com do pretty cheap Ts and zip necks....I have an AirTek of theirs made of Powerdry and its great, feel of cotton, unlike Coolmax etc.

Any more thoughts on traditional long-sleeve shirts made of high-tech fabrics?
I'm looking for some shirts to wear on a horseback safari this September in South Africa (so it'll be hot!) but would also like them to fit those situations in the UK where a base layer is too little but my Paramo Velez too much. And also to wear in-between base and Paramo when it's a bit on the chilly side but no so cold that I want to wear my (Monkey Man) fleece.
I'm 5'10", 12 stone, long arms and broad shoulders - somewhere between M & L depending on make/style.
Any suggestions?

Since the original post I've bought a few of the The North Face Modal/Polyester blend shirts in both long and short sleeved versions and they work very well. Note: avoid the TNF A5 series unless you like cotton...
I've got one of the Craghoppers Nosquito shirts which whilst not as good at wicking, is very cool and comfortable.
I've only got Berghaus short-sleeved shirts (Howard) but the healthguard fabric is very similar to the Craghoppers Nosquito and they're a little better made. I can't see any long-sleeved shirts on the Berghaus website, but they certainly did them last year (Hawkswood?) and can probably still be found.
I'm quite tempted by the Lowe Alpine Sahara or Odyssey shirts. If they're as good as my ancient LA shirt they'll be worth the price.

 if you carry things in the breast pockets, check out where they actually hang...sore nipples are not fun.
a double fabric shoulder (or mesh liner) is a good option which allows the outer cloth to ride over the inner which sticks to you when you get a bit lathery. helps stop chafing.

I don't know what they're like, but Tog24 have 100% polymide anti-bacterial, anti-mosquito long sleeved shirts reduced on their web site to £17...
