eBay has some good deals. But watch out for "buy it now" offers on GPS devices that are US based. There is a chance that you'll get stung for import duties and fees which will wipe out any savings.

In addition, you would need to ensure that any model you were purchasing was UK/EU, a basemap of the US being of not much use.

The Garmin Etrex is widely discounted by UK sellers anyway.

Also, watch for high level of postage. But I'm sure people have already noticed that.

Try not to worry about using overseas ebays. I have ordered several times on the US and German ebays and have never been charged import taxes. There is a chance that you will be charged, but the savings you'll make are huge, even with the cost of postage. MSR Dragonfly including postage was half price. I recently bought an mp3 player that including postage was 50% cheaper than any shop or website in the UK. Also you can expect delivery within days.

Just mentioned it AnonMouse2, at happened to me, just looking down one column, rather than the total. I was new to eBay at the time. These days, I've bought things from the other side of the world and the total cost has been cheaper than the UK/EU prices.

But I suppose the carbon offset cost (or whatever is decided) of the environmental/transport tax will put paid to this.

amazon.co.uk selling the Geko 201 for £82 with free p+p. RRP ~£139.

At 88 grams including batteries, this is a good 70 grams lighter than the etrex with a similar performance. Use lithium AAAs and you get great battery life.

backpackinglight.com agree, although they prefer the 301. The altimeter and digital compass weren't worth the extra cost for me.

Now that I've sold my GPSMap 76C, I find myself eyeing up the Geko's. I feel a purchase coming on.
