Top Quality Service by North Face
The North Face, excellent service

I bought a pair of winter gloves in Dec 2004. Used them for eight days winter walking in January and then put them into the loft until January 06. Went to use them for this years winter trip only to find the toggles which tighten the drawstring around my wrist to be defective. Not a happy person. I wrote to The North Face and they sent me out a BRAND NEW PAIR, upgraded to the gortex pair, FOC.
That is what I call service.
Well done North Face.

North Face seem to get a bit of a kicking on here - rather unjustified IMHO - so good to see something positive posted.

I have quite a lot of gear from different vendors (Berghaus, ME, Lowe, Paramo etc.) but my NF Windwall 1 is a great windproof fleece and my NF Nuptse vest is also very good!

I have a pair of their paramount convertible pants, i had them for about 6months when the belt broke, it looked as if it had just melted and i wasnt sure how or why so i took them back to the shop i bought them off who in turn sent them back to TNF, a week or so later a new pair of trousers arrived, which happened to be a newer model with slightly different (and lighter) material

Was most impressed

cheers

I have heard a few good things about Paramount Convertible pants - may have to try a pair.

What's the fit like around the thigh?
Show/hide user stats
It all depends on how big your thighs are... i have big thighs and they fit me with a little bit of room spare but not too much, some people might find them too baggy...it all depends on how you like your trousers.

Barking without wanting to hijack the thread too much... How do you find the breathability of the Windwall? Have you compared it to Windstopper? I'm very tempted by one if it's reasonably breathable.

I have a windstopper as well - although to be honest have not worn it as much yet (it's newer - bit of an impulse buy in a sale).

Both seem good - but perhaps the Windwall has the edge on breathability - think the Windwall is 98% windproof and the 2% 'air' does help.

Also the NF Windwall 1 is about £60-70 (full price) whereas many of the Windstoppers are a bit more.

But the NF Windwall 1 is certainly well worth a look - I wear mine very often - good fit (for me at least).

Re TNF Paramount convertibles, I've got skinny legs and I don't find them too baggy. But then I like my trousers loose (manage to climb as well as walk in them anyway). Good deep pockets take an OS map (gets a bit crumpled though). Not had to test TNF's customer service in the 2 years I've had them. Wish I'd bought another pair at US$40...

I had a VE25 which suffered from bad leakage/condensation on the floor. I was pretty sure it was the floor leaking. I got so fed up with even a paperback book causing pools of water if left on the floor of the inner tent that I sent it back. Very quickly I received a barand new upgraded tent with the vents inb.
They said the floor was faulty.

I had used it for about 18 months, and the fly had a small repair in, but i still received a new tent.

Very impressive!
I spoke to them over the phone & they were informative...unlike the gear shop where I bought it who said it was condensation. I do get condensation now at tiomes but not puddles!
