I am thinking about buying a rab latok alpine jacket. I have already read the member reviews on the website but i just wondered if anyone had any other opinions. I mainly do hillwalking, some scambling and have unrealistic ideas about going to the alps! Any opinions or advice are much appreciated.
I don't own one but I've tried it and the other Rab waterproofs on a lot. I like the cut and fit, but I think the hoods are atrocious. Think Spar bag with a wee skip, fine with a helmet though.
Another point is the front zip, I like a stormflap so I can leave the zip undone at the top and join a little bit of velcro at my mouth, so I can breath and not get snow/rain down my front. I've got one jacket with a waterproof zip on the front and it annoys the hell out of me.

You could always take advantage of the Rab 'try before you buy' promotion and, well, try before you buy really. There's a clicky thing on the righthand side of this page.

I really like the hood on mine - I find the hoods on many other jackets too small and restrictive. With the Rab the fit can be adjusted nicely with the drawcords and volume adjuster so that it moves with you when you turn your head.

i have had the rab alpine for some time and find it to be a great jacket, like graeme said the hood is quite nice in my opinion and does fit over a helmet. It's a nice cut and the zips are easy to get at with gloves on. It's pretty hard wearing, i have given it fair bit of abuse and it's still going strong.

I like my Rab Latok Alpine for what it is, which is a durable, light weight, minimalist, very breathable, waterproof climbing jacket. It's ca. 440 gm with a ripstop fabric throughout and very hard wearing as Chris mentioned. Like most Rabs it's cut on the slimmer side so may not appeal to some. The drawcords for the hood (which is great, by the way, and fits a climbing helmet) can be problematic and need to be pulled in and out of the way lest they interfere with the mouth/chin area when the collar is zipped up to the max. Some other features you may not like: single front zip, no storm flap, no vents, and shorter length given it's "Alpine" moniker. If you want a general hillwalking jacket you may be better off with a Rab Bergen instead.
