Hey, Simon! How d'you get on? And did you resolve the shoe / boot problem?

Well the week was brilliant, I managed to do Milestone Buttress, then Crib Lem, then Gribin, then Bristley Ridge and finished the week on Crib Goch.

And all week I lived in my new Five Ten Via Ferrata approach shoes so on this occasion they worked perfectly.

Admittingly we had a dry week and the only water was laying on the ground and I did not get wet feet from that.

They were comfortable for walking in a solid enough for the scrambling.

It was certainly a new experience spending all week using this type of footwear as I was quite a traditional person preferring boots but I think I'm converted but as along as the conditions are right.

I know people view them as trainers but to some they do the job brilliantly and you might just like them (approach shoes).

Thanks to all for the comments.

I've always been a boot person and currently have Brasher Carvo GTXs. They are my first pair of GoreTex lined boots. I've been finding whilst they keep my feet dry whilst walking (stream crossings etc), by the time I've finished my socks are soggy from the sweat. After last year's Grin & Bear It, my feet were positively wrinkly. Eeww.

Hence I've been thinking about going for a non-lined trail/approach shoe and SealSkinz liner, so it's good to hear from other folks who've gone down the same path.

I already have a pair of SealSkinz mid-length thermal for winter MTBing (toasty toes in Winter - bliss!) but thought the non-Merino ones would be better for summer.
