Well the week was brilliant, I managed to do Milestone Buttress, then Crib Lem, then Gribin, then Bristley Ridge and finished the week on Crib Goch.

And all week I lived in my new Five Ten Via Ferrata approach shoes so on this occasion they worked perfectly.

Admittingly we had a dry week and the only water was laying on the ground and I did not get wet feet from that.

They were comfortable for walking in a solid enough for the scrambling.

It was certainly a new experience spending all week using this type of footwear as I was quite a traditional person preferring boots but I think I'm converted but as along as the conditions are right.

I know people view them as trainers but to some they do the job brilliantly and you might just like them (approach shoes).

Thanks to all for the comments.

Simon

I've always been a boot person and currently have Brasher Carvo GTXs. They are my first pair of GoreTex lined boots. I've been finding whilst they keep my feet dry whilst walking (stream crossings etc), by the time I've finished my socks are soggy from the sweat. After last year's Grin & Bear It, my feet were positively wrinkly. Eeww.

Hence I've been thinking about going for a non-lined trail/approach shoe and SealSkinz liner, so it's good to hear from other folks who've gone down the same path.

I already have a pair of SealSkinz mid-length thermal for winter MTBing (toasty toes in Winter - bliss!) but thought the non-Merino ones would be better for summer.

I have been using a pair of boots that when trying to get a replacement so far none of the shops boot and outward bound alike have been able to recognise.

They are Green, made of nylon and the outer toes and heels are made of suede. theya re only very thinly padded around the whole boot and are great even in the summer. I suppose they must be like fell runnung boots but they really look more like a walking boot.

The started life with a standard "Commando" style pattern sole.

I bought them some 20 years ago in a sale in a walking shop in Dundee for the princely some of £15!!.

They have been repaired (New soles and some stitching) a few times over the years.

They are extremely comfortable and I have travelled in them as well as using them for walking, I will also admit to using them for DIY and just normal walking to the shops and back.

If I ever had to leave my house in rush these are to only boots I would grab automatically.

My problem is that although they are not as old as me the chances of them lasting another 20 years is pretty remote and Ihave been trying on and off for about the past 2 years to find anything comparable.

Anyone got a clue what they are?
