Stupidly light and nicely made, the Haglöfs 'Less Is More' philosophy has produced an excellent lightweight Paclite jacket

from the small amount of haglofs gear i own (a powerstrech top) i have to say its really nice stuff. the cut is great when reaching above the head. ivwe got quite long arms and loads of tops end up around me bellybuton when scrabling but this stays put. oh and its lovely n warm to!

There is a danger of the old Thompson/Karrimor factor isn't there though.

You know, one thinks that this particular thing that you own is great therefore the next item, be it a completely different piece of gear, say boot compared to a tent, is just as good.

Or conversly, as Johhny Corteen would say, ALL Berghaus footware is crap because he had one bad experience...we should look upon each item of gear with new eyes and try not to carry the baggage of previous purchases/tests/whatever with us.

But to be fair (and I know I'm not normally fair) all Berghaus footware IS crap.

Actually the latest stuff, which has just appeared, seems quite good. Watch this space. Seriously, companies change factories, bring in new models, improve quality control etc. You have to judge stuff on its merits as an individual product rather than being led by preconceptions about particular brands.

As an example, MHW make some very nice kit, but I'm not particularly impressed with the Epic jacket.

Ah yes... That is a nice objective way of looking at it, but if a manufacturer allows poor quality products to be sold in the shops and a consumer is unfortunate to buy the product for £120 and that manufacturer's attitude is "well you bought them" they would have to do a lot to make me want to buy from them again.

Ahhhh, but that is more about customer service than brand quality, etc.

Ooops, meant to put a smilie after that last statement!

Sorry, was sort of kidding.

Can sympathise with Johns point of view though.

When I contacted BH about the DWR finish on a pair of trousers - or perhaps I should say WR as it was about as durable as a fairy cake - they just told me to go buy some grangers or nikwax and reproof them.

Sorry, but I dont think that the DWR sould dissapear completely after one wash.

No, I didn't use softener etc etc, yes I used pure soapflakes, yes I rinsed the machine and soap dispenser out, blah, blah.

That sort of response DOES put you off buying another product from that manufacturer to a certain extent.

Compared to ME's attitude to rectifying any problems with kit (which is second to none IMO) its bloody poor.

Rant over. Sorry, I'll get back in me cupboard now.
