Hi All,

Ages since I posted here... I'm looking at getting my first down bag to replace my ME ultralite. I came across a Macpac Epic 300 on sale, which really appeals because it's so light and waterproof (taped seams and all). I share my tent/mat with long-haired collie who normally finds some way to get drenched shortly before settling in for the night, so I'm thinking water proof could be a *really* handy thing in down bag.. or is that just paranoid? Anyone else got experience of combining down with damp dogs..?

Anyway, can't find any reviews of the Macpac Epic bags; anyone out there used one? Macpac's temperature ratings seem pretty conservative for the spec. The Epic 300 is rated as +3c, but a lot of other bags with similar amounts/quality of down are rated to -3ish. Anyone got any comments on Macpac's bags and ratings generally? Are they really that much colder than the likes of Rab..?

many thanks...

Hi

I thought I posted a reply to this yesterday but it doesn't seem to have appeared - try www.buachaille.com for a review. I am considering a macpac 450 myself (due to its weight and waterproof fabric) as I also walk with a long haired & curious collie.

What tent do you use? I've been looking into lightweight options but, as I have a dog, my needs fall between the 1 man & 2 man tent categories - at present I am considering a Black Diamond hilight (currently I have a Vaude Taurus Ultralight, though that weights in at about 2kg & is a bit big for my planned slimmed down pack).

Thanks

Hi

I just picked up a macpac 450 from ebay, at over £60 less than online retail price. Give it a try: vendor has an Epic 150 as well (I think).
