Can anybody recommend some decent gear shops in the Lakes? Primarily we are after some approach shoes (for me and my wife), but might be persuaded to buy some other items!!!

Gaynors - Ambleside have a HUGE range

Failing that there's any number of alternatives in the town

I think there are one or two shops in Ambleside and a couple in Keswick.

Keswicks probably got more bargains on the mnain street, but watch out for the tourist traps.

Ambleside must easily have 4 or 5 choices

Grasmere's got a few good ones as well...

George Fisher in Keswick is superb. Needlesports (also in Keswick) and Rock and Run in Ambleside are very good though perhaps more climbing oriented. Pete Bland Sports in Kendal is the place for fell shoes and trail shoes.

Hi,Have a look at the Outdoor Warehouse in Windermere. They are presently selling Inov8 shoes at very keen prices. They tend to sell a lot of lightweight gear including Aku Boots,Golite & Montane.

Kentdale Rambler in Kendal is very good and if you ask nicely you can sometimes get a discount.

Stuart Cunningham in Ambleside usually have a good selection of footwear particularly salomon in the reduced section.Often a bargain to be had and worth a visit whilst in the area.

Just like to say thanks for all your posts. We tried a couple of your suggestions (Gaynors didn't have a great range of ladies shoes). In the end we bought from George Fisher, who I'd just like to recommend as a place to get a bit of decent advice and service. Thanks again..

George Fisher In Keswick is my fave - I can spend many happy hours there - and I'm v. fond of The Climbers' Shop in Ambleside too (even though I'm not a climber (crubeens don't grip)).

p.s. oops - too late!
