Im 6 foot 2 and a fat bugger (definaltey heavier than dave  ;o) the superfly xt in XL is quite baggy, i can get my baltoro guide jacket underneath with ease.

I think its a fantastic jacket especially when you consider the price you can get it for on the web or direct from montane via mail order.

when looking for mine i think i tried the venture on and didnt get on with the way the arms were cut.

cheers

polo: I'm just one step from buying Super-Fly XT 2007/2008 model.  Is it the same as yours?

My concern is the size I need to choose.  I'm 178cm (5'11"), 65kg (10.25 stone), 96cm chest, 80cm waist, 85cm sleeve (from neck centre to cuff).  Which size would you suggest?

mateusz,

as i posted a while back, i'm your height, but 10kgs heavier (chest: 100cm, waist 85). my superfly xt in size s from 06=07 fits me fine, not too wide but with enough room for layering underneath, sleeves and overall length are fine. as i don't know if montane changed the sizing from last year and due to the fact that you're a bit lighter, you might want to go safe and try the jacket on.

just one more question about sleeves (lenght measured from centre back nect to cuff) - lenght of my sleeve is 85cm (33.5") and I am not sure about it suiting S size.

The new model XT is r-e-a-l-l-y w-i-d-e. I tried on my usuaul large and found I could have got the apprentice in beside me. 60 inch chest or something.

Anyway, try before you buy or get one from the factory shop for cheap and it's worth the gamble.

if it was that simple I would not hesitate and try the XT at the very beginning.  alas, the nearest shop is about 360km (223miles) from the city I happen to live in.  in fact there is only one shop in Poland that sells Montane...

thanks

I'm 175cm tall, about 60kg and ~90cm in the chest and the new S-F XT in Small size is a little to wide for me. I've tried it over snug fitted Polartec Thermalpro, so I think that it should be good for you.

Sleeves are long - I've managed to put an arm very high and bottom of jacket almost didn't go up.

The new hood is marvellous!

Dimension of the new Super-Fly XT size Small are:

chest: 60 cm (flat, under arms)

sleeve: 84 cm (from collar/hood to cuff)

waist: 55 cm (flat)

back: 72 cm (from collar/hood to bottom)

(above I've got in an email from shop I've asked for measuring)

Do they have a lot of stock in the factory shop, and are all the prices discounted? Also do they keep all their rangess in stock?Just wondering if it's worth the trip up. I bought a Dynamo jacket from then which was well discounted(~60%), but their standard postage is via a courier which wasn't cheap.

Cheers.

Mateusz,

If I were your dimensions, I'd seriously consider the Crux Flak Jacket in size M. They may still have some on clearance from last year in the direct sales section of their website [p]Unfortunately, I'm Burley by name and somewhat <a href="http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/burly%20]burly by nature

Two small rooms.  Reasonable stock, best to go on weekdays as they can raid the warehouse also (not possible on Saturdays).  Prices about the same as decent online retailers - Terra Pants £52, Stretch Terra Pants £60, wasn't looking at the jackets.  They have a samples rail which has some very good deals, but usually only if you are medium.  Closed next week.

Obviously pot luck unless you ring first, but this week there was a Firestorm soft shell as a sample in medium for £60 - stonking price, if I wasn't 6' 1" with Neanderthal arms.

The main design fault with the Superfly XT is that the front horizontal seams are not sealed, which results in the contents of the pockets getting soaked.

The fitting of good water resisting zips to the pockets is defeated by this extremely poor design fault.

That apart I find the jacket to be excellent.

I bought mine from Field & Trek, whom I found to be very helpful.

If you can live without dry front pockets I would say its the perfect jacket and I'd certainly buy another (but I don't need to as mine is still 100% waterproof, pockets excepted).

Which version of the jacket are you using, 2008? I'm thinking of buying a new 3-layer jacket for backpacking and everyday life. First, I looked at the Montane Venture, but the hips aren't reinforced and the most weight of my rucksack lies on the hips. The Super-Fly XT is (according to the information on the Montane homepage) exactly what I'm looking for, but I don't like wet pockets...

Hi Simon,

I bought my jacket on 4/8/06 and I had it replaced on 18/8/06 as the drawcord at the rear of the hood came off.

Montane may have corrected the unsealed seam design fault by now, an email to them should confirm.

If not, then the stitching inside the pockets and on the front of the jacket may be treated with seam sealer, in truth I hadn't given this much thought, but it is possible (I just checked).

My jacket gets used every day with a rucksack and (pockets excepted) is still superb.

Field & Trek proved to be excellent for service.

Hi Darius,

does your jacket look like this or like this? It seems that Montane has changed some details of the jacket. I will send an e-mail and ask them if the seams are sealed.

Thanks,

Simon

P.S. Same Problem, different jacket

Hey,

sorry to hijack this thread, but can anyone say something about the 2009 model of the XT? I'm wondering if it's still as bulky as it was in the older models. I'm 181 cm ( I think thats 5'11") and around 73 kg (so rather slim), and TNF in Medium fits spot-on. Should I go Medium or small?

Second question, which size would be best in Berghaus?

Best regards,

Kevin
