Stephen, did you have to pay duty on it? I had to pay on mine.

I didn't have to pay on mine, possibly because the value would have been under £18 given the current exchange rate.

You still should pay duty as for commercial items they add shipping costs into the item value. Bandits.

They don't seem to do this for items from the channel islands (7dayshop). No idea why.

I've been stung for duty for things worth well below the threshold (cheap presents from uncle). It mysteriously always amounts to £15 for duty and a £15 'handling' charge.

I think the courier and your address make a difference. I've never not been stung.

I am now tempted!

I bivvied with a closed cell mat easter as my Airic doesn't hold air, so one of these seems like a great compromise. Weighs the same as an Airic, but looks as comfy as my Exped...

oooo, sierra trading post - they take paypal! I can spend my illgotten ebay gains now!

Thanks for the heads up, bought one now!

EDIT
Doh, they've only charged me $6 for shippping! I selected the $25 option... oh well, i'm sure they'll contact me...

They probably won't, Dave. I ordered 2 more mats from them last Thursday, they arrived this Monday, they only charged me $10 P&P (that's the US overland rate) even though I told them twice that it was incorrect (it should have been $35).

I've had my Insulmat inflated in the living room and it does look like it should be considerably comfier than my usual Wee Airic or Thermarest. It already looks there will be a fight for it when I'm camping with SWMBO as I only bought one...

It's due for its first proper outing at the weekend so I'll report back afterwards.

Slept well on my Insul on Saturday night. Doesn't fold down as small as the 3/4 Thermarest, but I'm not comparing like-for-like, as the Insul is full length.

One advantage is that the valve doesn't hit a shoulder in the night. I stayed on the mat all night (unlike normal).

I also used my Insul-Mat for the first time on Saturday night and was also impressed with it. It's certainly a bit bulkier than my 3/4 length Wee Airic but it's still not that big (about the same pack size as my Vango Venom 225 sleeping bag and it packs very small) and it's a lot more comfortable.

I often have a sore back after a night out camping but not this time.

You chaps (and chapesses) who've bought Insul-Mats from Sierra Trading Post: I take it you've got the 'Lite' version of the Max Thermo which is only 1" thick? I couldn't see the 2.5" 'Full Fat' version on their website...

Just that I had to get mine from gogogear in Oz, and it was a bit more expensive...

Hi Cap, yeah that was the one I went for, but BG went for this, and although Long, packs smaller then the Lite:

Ah: it doesn't come up in the search any more because it's out-of-stock.

Not quite the same level of bargain, but £43 is well spent on my Max Thermo.

Mine was the big one and in the long length as that's all they had left. It looked like mine might have been the last they had at that price as it dissapeared from the clearance section soon after I'd ordered it.
