aldi 5 squids a pole!
perfect to try out and see if u like em.

i always intended to get some expensive ones like the pacer poles but i seem to have stuck with my cheap poles to present date.

I've been using Pacerpoles for a few walks now and would say they're a definite improvement over the Leki's I'd been using for years. They seem to promote a more upright posture, which in turn seems to have got rid of the backaches I was getting. I also do feel that once you get the rhythm going you do seem to go at a faster pace than before. The only problem is that unless everyone in the group uses them you tend to keep getting in front and having to wait for them.

I don't know why they're not in the review section, as I'm pretty sure they would score very highly.

Pacer Poles are expecive but they do work and I think are worth the money, mine came via my redundancy collection. For every day use I still use a cheap pole from Lidi or with a the dogs a hefty bullock whacker, bought in an auction room. So its what suits does.

Alpkit brillant used them for the past 12 months so light and only £40 a pair.

I've used, Leki, Khola, Gabel and Alpkit.
The Lekis I gave to my mother, the kholas I hacksawed in half due to the mental anguish they bestowed upon me and the Gabels are fine if a little heavy.
The Alpkits reign supreme in lightness and performance.
Carbon fibre looks nice as well.

"the kholas I hacksawed in half due to the mental anguish they bestowed upon me"

lol ptc what did they do to cause that?

have to agree the carbon fibre does look nice...not as nice as my carbon fishing rod though lol

Moggy, they're painted instead of anodized, the locking mechanisms are rubbish too. The paint is soft and rubbery, gets pitted and scratched which traps dirt and moisture, this jams the locks and freezes in winter.
After a long steep descent to a coll with my poles at maximum extension I couldn't adjust one and spent the rest of the day with an anntena sticking three feet up from my rucksack.
I looked like a '70s 'Field Communication Action Man'.
So hacksaw it was.

Lol ptc thats not good!

When i was looking for poles i didnt even consider the kholas despite them doing well in trail as i didnt like the idea of the extra section...more to adjust,go wrong or break.

The curved Khola handle shape is the best I've used, the rest was a great disappointment.
I actually tried to get the handles off to see if I could transplant them, but that ended in tears with cork and aluminium shrapnel all over the workshop.

OK trying like mad to trawl my brain ... Keswick town center.. driving from windermere.. through the s bend in the center.. towards the roundabout.. turn left towards Booths and Borrowdale.. straight on to Cockermouth etc... on the corner oppositede as you approach the rndabt.. store that's name illudes me.. has sale sign in window 365 days.. arghhh.. it will come to me.... (Ohhh this is the only place that sells the poles I have.. or only one I have found).
Anyways.. Poles are called Trekker, has Trek Mate on the top part. Also only poles I have found any where with rubberish easy to grip handles. Yes they can rub after 14 miles of using them, but it's a toss up...
Gripping hold of a shiney plasticy handle for 14 miles so you dont drop the pole.. NO THANKS.. or a nice rubbery firm grip that if you wear gloves (thin ones) is no problem.. well I picked the later.
Not the lightest, not the best made, but one of the cheapest you will find...
YES remembered.... Tresspass the name of the shop.. or at least it has that all over the front of the shop..
I have hammered my poles to death, never really looked after them and managed to leave one on top of Blencathra.. grrr.. the other one did it's 134th AW this week!
I think that's it.. can ya all remember now how much I waffle.. hehehehehe

Has to be Black Diamond poles for me. The locking mechanism is so quick and easy that you actually use it! Tried other poles with thick mitts in windy sub-zero temps. No thanks.

Where did you get the Black Diamonds from. Have been thinking between them and Pacerpoles.

Hi Coachio,
Got them a couple of years ago from Craigdon Mountain Sports in Perth.

Hi, i bought Black Diamonds couple of months ago and think they are great. I got mine from Nevisport in Glasgow.

Cheers for the reply, I didn't see them in Criagdon in Aberdeen but as I'm down in Glasgow on Sunday I'll give nevissport a try.

Coachio.
I had the same problem I liked every thing about the Black Diamonds and looked at them several times at Snow & Rock in Ambleside but the Pacer poles won the day. Maybe it's because of the handles, which are a real winner but also they are made in Britain. I have used them a lot since December and realy do like them. They are heavier than Black Diamonds but they have a very sure secure feel to them.

Oops Sorry Pacer Poles are NOT MADE in Britain but are supplyed by a firm in Windermere. Sorry for the mistake.
