I've been looking at the review page headed "Pro Action One Person Tent". The problem is that Pro Action have produced at least 2 different one-man tents. Top of the page shows a picture of the later one with the door in the long side (can't remember the model name). The older version, sometimes marketed as "Tiger Paws", has the door in the end, not the side, and at least one review shows a little picture of this one.

From what I've heard, the older version was good (I got one on the Argos clearance, but have not yet used it) while the newer one was... less good. The 18 reviews are probably a mix of both, so buyer beware if you're offered one of these.

Yes, the newer one, Sydney i think it's called, was absolute tat (someone sold one for £300 or more as a joke, i'm sure someone will unearth the link).

Basically the newer one is single skin, where the older one was double skin and a nice little tent with a porch. I didn't really get much use out of mine, as i gave it away to my brother in law. Wish I'd have sold it on Ebay now and tripled my money.

The older version I gather was quite good, double skin etc.

The newer one is single skin and is as waterproof as toilet paper.

On a recent trip to the lakes someone camping near me discovered how waterproof they weren't during a short downpore, I was quite glad really as he had kept me awake most of the night

Must have a look at the single skin Pro Action, as I'm curious as to why it is not waterproof.
It must be the material that they are using.
As tarps and some of the lightweight tents are all single skin, and AFAIK they don't have this problem (well I know my tarp doesn't leak).
I know there was the comment about condersation in the single skin version, which I would of thought was also a design issue or even a conditions at the time (all tents suffer from this in one form or another).

PS Frank are you paying royalties to Dave for that picture you are using? ;)

The guy I mentioned had just bought the tent that day along with a cheap Vango sleeping bag, he eventually stopped talking around 4.00AM and went to bed, started raining shortly afterwords and in the morning 8ish he was soaked as was his bag and a puddle inside the tent, wether he was to pi***d to close the tent properly I don't know nor care

No WD he is paying me :-)

The older version crops up on Ebay from time to time so it's worth keeping an eye open. Most I've seen one go for is £80+. Last one went for £18.

Great wee tent for the money.

One reviewer gave the old Pro Action tent, i.e. the double skinned one, a pretty poor review because its flysheet was stitched and not seam welded therefore likely to leak, in spite of him not having tested said tent in wet conditions. I forgive him for that because he is probably not fast approaching sixty like me and therefore does not have memories of all those old fashioned tents so constructed that never, ever leaked.
I can only forgive so much though because he then went on to say he believed the tent would not stand up to winds in excess of 25 mph. It's a pretty bizarre way to review anything, let alone a tent, having no experience of something then leaping to conclusions. That's not review, it's speculation. I can assure you, and that so called reviewer, from experience, that the tent will stand up to winds of 40mph plus, though I confess that at times I thought it would collapse, furthermore after three nights of heavy rain I was still as dry as a bone although the fly seams did start to leak a little on the third night.
The blurb that came with the tent did warn against naked flames and pitching near fires so I didn't even attempt to cook in the porch which meant a few cold wayfarers, so that is a minus.
I would recommend different guys and pegs.
I paid £19.99 for my tent and because of that and its performance I am more satisfied than I am with the tent I paid over £170 for and the single skin tent I paid £70 for.
I have since sealed the fly seams, replaced the pegs and guylines and the total weight has dropped to 1.95K.
I take it out on one and two nighters almost always, mainly because it does the job beautifully and is qick to pitch but also because I am so proud of grabbing such a bargain.
I can't seem to find the review anywhere but I did read it somewhere.

I've got 2 of the original ones and they are great. I bought the new' Sydney' single skin one to try out when it came out to compare them.
It's absolute rubbish. Crap.
Don't even think about buying one; spend the money on a cheap wetsuit instead.

The older version was a direct copy of the Sierra Designs Lightyear, though I imagine the materials are different. I don't know how Pro Action got away with it, but at least I got a great tent out of it!  The rest of the stuff in the Pro Action range appears to be in-house design and I wouldn't buy one for anything other than a bit of summer valley camping or festival use, and I wouldn't expect it to last long.  But then I guess I am biased!
