Does anyone know if the Mammut base jump pants are worth buying?

They cost around £90 and claim to be virtually windproof and water repellent.

Are these a sound investment or should I stick to my Craghopper Kiwis?

hi jon,
I would say yes, i have been wearing them for a year or so now and i think that the performance of them is fantastic. Yes they are expensive but i wear them as an allyear round trouser. In terms of the water repelancy you can go around a couple of hours in moderate rain before you can feel them wet through. Ideal for the cairngorms.....

I'm interested in these too. Do you know which type of schoeller they use? I believe 3xdry is just the dwr (I stand to be corrcted).

I have a pair for sale if anyone's interested. They are european size 50, which translates to a 33" waist. Excellent condition - email me if you are interested.

Sorry, never been keen on second hand trousers. I'm sure someone will oblige. Why are you selling them?

If you are still interested spikeoutdoors.co.uk offering them at £79.99 including postage. Are these suitable winter trousers or are cascada a better bet?

I tried some Base jumps on at the weekend but didn't buy them. They just didn't fit me. I found a pair with the correct waist and leg length, but they were simply too tight around my thighs to be comfortable. Even with the stretch they restricted movement. They aslo looked like a pair of 70's disco flares. Pity, but definately no good for me (to be fair I do have fairly large legs from mountain biking).

I already have some Cascada's which are excellent (but much warmer I'd guess).

Thats exactly what I found when I tried some on Sun. I too had big MTB legs though!!

Just so younknow though, braces are available for them which is why I originally looked at them - stops those chilly back incidents!!

Pretty sure they're Dryskin Extreme. Looking at Mammut's website, they're no longer featured, so may be obsolete. Look to have been replaced by the 'All Out Pant', which is also DSE.

I've been using Base Jumps for over a year and love them. Can't fault them.

The braces are excellent - you can buy them separately and with a little handiwork put suitable loops on other trousers.
