Myself and my wife got some and we used them at the park on Sunday morning (4-6C) and it was cold enough to hurt, they did NOTHING!!! Was a bit pieved to say the least having convinced my wife that they were a good brand and then being just as warm/cold with them off!

Is this a product issue or are woolen gloves only good to say, 10C (pretty pointless, 4C is hardly cold!).

Also, the build quality is not that great, after one use a little hole has openned up by the base of my thumb. Same issue with my wifes pair.

Suggestions?

Aren't they just thin liner gloves? Can't really expect them to do much on their own, especially if its windy. I'd take them back if they've fallen to bits though. If you want woolen gloves that work in the cold, thick Dachsteins are the way to go - they come into their own in snow.

yeah, heard good things about them (Dachsteins).

These aren't the icebreaker liner glove (wool / lycra mix), they the full wool glove that is meant to be worn on their own. The shop assistant at Slug and rubble said, "They will keep you warm anywhere!" guess that doesn't include Hyde Park

dunno about icebreaker wool gloves, but I have some "homeknitted" wool gloves and they're fantastic, very warm and hardwearing. Their only downside is in the wet and wind, for which they really need a wetproof cover.

I would not really recommend 'just' wool gloves (even Icebreaker <gasp>) to keep you toasty - you really need something with a windstopper membrane or even waterproof / insulated.

... or maybe I just have cold hands?

Windstopper is great, but can be a little cool. soemtimes need to back them up with a liner glove. Try some of the new fleece gloves such as Winpro - good wind resistance, and good warmth. Windsopper is better if it's windy, but you might need some more pile.

I actually went to Cotswold outdoor yesterday to try on the HH Freeze top (very nice) and I looked at some of the gloves. I was quite surprised at how the Windy / Fatty / Whatever + Sticky palm gloves were quite uncomfortable, almost like the sticky bit had flattened out whatever insulation the glove had and made it feel sharp. I think I am going to buy the Xtremities Thicky glove as a liner glove for my MH waterproof things and use alone in Hyde Park with the dawg
