It's good stuff. Works exactly the same as Paramo (they use the same fabrics, I think), and has the patricular advantage to me, being of non-standard dimensions, of being available made to measure.
I have a Cioch jacket, smock and trousers. All excellent.
I got a pair of their prefect fit waterproof trousers with braces last Autumn. Wouldn't say they're any better than P******, but being made-to-measure they are definitely a more comfortable fit.
The braces do help, I'm forever pulling my P****** up, but you could easily add some elastic braces yourself and I've been meaning to get around to this for a while.
I think Cioch offer reinforced panels on the seat, knees and ankles too, which might be useful for scrambling, but I didn't bother.
I wanted to look at the Marsco too, but they've stopped making them now except for special order and I didn't really like the Fionn; pockets seemed to be right where the pack waistbelt would be.
I'm guessing price is the issue. All Cioch gear seems to be around 50% more than P***** equivalents. I can get P***** jackets that fit off the peg, but trousers, now that's a different matter.
I dealt with Cioch about a year ago, and they couldn't have been more helpful. I ended up getting a sort of hybrid thing from them, basically the Marsco smock, but with the Fionn hood - which was really a full mountain hood - and heavier duty material on the sleeves & shoulders.
It wasn't that I had a list of demands, honest, just that they suggested that combination via email when I asked a couple of questions about the jacket's relative merits.
It was still the same price as their normal made to measure smock too.
It's a great waterproof, seems to have a significantly better DWR than the cascada breeks I've got, and needless to say, it fits properly.
I guess that the price of the Cioch breeks is more, but, the perfect fit, and performance, does it for me.
The Fionn smock is akin to the Aspira and there isn't much difference in cost (cheaper?) what you get in the Fionn is a top notch winter smock that fits properly.
I've seen so many comments on P***** fit in the past. For me, the Aspira smock I tried was too baggy and the arms were too short.
My reason for kicking off this thread was to query why Cioch - top notch gear that fits, and, top notch service - wasn't getting the for and against comments that P***** was getting adnausium; eg the latest review of cascada trousers (which are great if they fit - mine didn't).
