Electronic maps
from electronic mapping tools

A mate of mine just sent me a routemap for a bike ride. It was a photo of map printed from (I think) MemoryMap, with the route drawn on it by hand. When I asked him why he hadn't sent a direct electronic map from the tool, he said that another mate of ours didn't have the mapping s/w, so couldn't see it.

Surely you can export maps to standard graphic formats (GIF, JPG, etc) from these tools?

Just checked in my version of Memory Map, and there is an Image Export menu item, but it is greyed out. Probably a licencing restriction imposed by OS?

However printing to a PDF 'printer' soon allowed a 'portable document' :)

Thought that might be the obvious way around it. Ta.

I use tracklogs and again you can't save then image, if I want to get a pic to send people I set it to full map view and then take a screenshot and trim the borders off.

I know there's licensing restrictions but I wish Tracklogs would let you save the outline of the routes with the waypoints marked but without the map. It would also be good to be able to save the profiles out as images or even to print them.

Only output you can get is to print maps or routecards, save in a proprietary format or export to a GPS

Get map on screen
Use PrtScn on your keyboard
Open application (Word, Powerpoint, Picture Manager etc)
Ctrl-V

Save

Anquet lets you print the profile

What do you mean by "outline of the route without the map?"

druidh,

I mean a line representing the plotted track with the waypoints marked along it.

Could be used to easily illustrate where a route goes. Also if the recipient printed it to the correct scale on acetate they could overlay on a paper map and see the original route.

There is actually nothing to stop you sending this information to a GPS as a tracklog and set of waypoints and then loading it back into another application but that's a bit too much effort.

The option for image export works on the version I have, it creates huge bitmaps but obviously easily compressed into other formats. Failing that should be able to create a route card from the overlay properties bit.

use Alt PrtScn instead of just PrtScn.
ALt Prtscn just copies the active screen whilst Prtscn copies the whole desktop.
