Why do mine leak??

I've had my Salomons for around 18 months now. I've used them every time I've been out in the snow in Snowdonia. I've done the odd Winter climb in them in the Cairngorms but I've not done anything too destructive to them!

Anyway as I was enjoing the last snow of spring on Carnedd Llywelyn the other day, I noticed that both my feet were getting wet. It was a glorious, sunny day, there was no sleet, snow or rain in the air and the snow on the ground was not very deep.

The 2 times before that my feet got wet I assumed that my overtrousers were leaking and that the moisture was running down my legs and into the boots.

It seems strange for both boots to develop the problem at once. They are in good condition and I just can't figure out if it's a problem with the boots or not.

Does anybody have any ideas??

If your boots have not been cleaned in ages then the pours in the GTX clog and prevent the feet from breathing.

1.  Give the boots a good wash inside and out, then leave to dry normally.

2.  Stuff with paper and allow to dry.

3.  Dont place the boots near a radiator or heat source as this may damage the outershell.

Hope this works. Enjoy the hills

Mine went the same way - definite leaking from outside after 3 seasons.

Soles were bugg**ed anway by that point so I'm breaking in my new boots this winter.

Did like the Salomons though - however they're now a deleted line.

Yup, mine do the leaky thing too. The toughest thing though is that the soles of mine have started to part company from the boot & i've only had them since Oct 07, i'm absolutely gutted & appallled, to be quite honest,,,, hence why i'm here trying to find out if anyone else has had this bad luck/batch, whatever. Yeah, mine are lace munchers too!!!

But i love them to bits, they're great, but i need more than 7 months out of boots that i'm very gentle on, don't you think??????

Does anyone know where to go from here?????

Had two pairs of these and they both leaked (eventually) which was disappointing as in every other respect these boots are the business. Pair 1 I sent back to Salomon because they leaked after one fairly gentle trip in the Arctic. Pair 2 have been hammered (3 years now and the sole has gone on one boot) but still started to leak after about 2 years - the fault on both pairs was in the area where the grey and the black sections of the toe unit meet at the front of the boot - there is a tiny gap there (on both sides) that enlarges with use and thats where the water has been coming in on both my pairs. Pair 1 had the gap from new, pair 2 it developed with use. Just bought my 3rd pair however, because at the price (heavily discounted in some shops) they are an excellent boot - I cant find another 4 season boot that comes even close to this quality for a comparable price - just hope I get lucky with no leaks this time!
