I've recently bought a Pipedream 600 & wondered what the purpose of the quantum stuff bag is, Why do you get this & a compression sack? Is it just a bonus bag for other sundries, or are you expected to fit the sleepingbag inside it. I must admit I did try to put the pipedream in it but as I can't seem to fit it in I reckon it must be for another reason.

 I don't have this, but with the 900 I had from Alpkit I had the compression bag which is used to store the bag while in a rucksack only. And a large white(ish) bag often called a stuff sack to store the bag in while not in use.
Now that is the more important of the two bags, as the down bag needs to stored so that the down can stay lofted. If it is stored all the time in the compression bag then the down will lose some of it's lofting properties and not be as warm.

 The PipeDreams come with 3 bags (4 if you count the PipeDream itself!).
Mine only arrived this morning so not had a chance to look at it.
Either have a look on the Alpkit website or give them a call. I think it's meant for occasional even-more-lightweight use but I could be completely wrong.

 you get a storage large cotton bag, a "normal" compression sack and a tinier one for those days when you want to compress the bag down further to save more space. quite thoughtful of alpkit.

 As said the quantum stuff bag is for when you want to save a bit of weight. I have a PipeDream 400 and can fit it into its quantum stuff sack so try a little harder and if still no succes give alpkit a ring.

 I was wondering the same thing, not sure how I would get my pipedream 600 in the smallest sack but having said that I've never been very good at packing stuff!
I thought it was for other stuff like putting a down coat or something in and using as a pillow. My my ham fistedness I think I would rip the pipedream before I'd fit it in :-(

 When stuffing your sleeping bag into any stuff sack don't try rolling it up first, you'll have much greater success if you don't.

 So glad someone else beat me to this one. I'd been wondering too. I went wild camping last night and actually used the quantum sack to replace my usually heavier stuff sacks for other things! I presumed it was probably for putting the bag in and then into the stuff sack as the stuff sach probably isn't waterproof.
FGL, took me about a year to figure that out too!... we all learn in the end... somehow!

Well I gave it another go & I managed to get it in with a fair bit of effort( glad I took my porridge)& I thought I was going to rip something (I was stuffing it & not rolling it the first time), but it measures 18x28 in the quantum sack, if you use the compression sack you can get it to 18x24 as stated on Alpkits pages & it's a peice of cake. I know which one I'll be using.
One pretty nifty thing I found out about using the quantum sack is, as soon as you release the drawcord it unpacks itself, how cool is that!

 maybe im wrong, but im pretty sure that a few days ago, on the alpkit pipedream page it said "quantum bag not supplied with 600 filled one". however, since it has been re-released, the page had been updated.
therefore i dont think the quantum one is intended for the 600, but they still chuck it in cos you potentially can stuff the 600 in.
i so want one!!

All the Pipedreams now come with suitable size Quantum stuff bag for those really light days. Both the 400 and 600 fit but make sure you have 3 shredded wheat in the morning first.
The stuffbag is made from the waste material after the sleeping bag panels have been cut out. Seemed a shame to just put it in the bin.

 Bit of a dig-up, but I just took delivery of an Alpkit PD 400 and was suitably impressed to find the three bags. Having just managed to pound the poor thing into the small quantum stuff sack, I can in fact confirm that it bounces pretty well! Definitely not the place to store it.

 I got one of the first "new" PD 600's and got all three bags. I only use the big cotton bag for storing the sleeping bag and I use an exped drybag as I dont wanna risk getting the down wet in my rucksac. The nice thing is though the Exped drybag is a nice chilli colour to match the pipe dream
