Hi, I'm in the market for a new sleeping bag, it'll be used mainly for car camping in late spring/summer/ early autumn and I want one which will be light enough for the occasional wild camp. I don't have a lot to spend about £40 and have spotted blacks do a range of sleeping bags which fit my requirements, so my question is are blacks sleeping bags of a decent quality and can you think of any alternatives in my price bracket which will be better? Cheers for all your help, Andrew

Vango have plenty of decent sleeping bags in that price range, including some that Blacks/Millets were selling off for £20 recently (Nitestar or Niteline - something like that).

Second recommendation for Vango bags. I got one for my daughter. It's very cosy.

Try vango or mountain equipment both do bags in that price range, we have vango nitestar 450's for cold winter campsite camping and we paid about £30 per bag.

the mountain equipment firewalker range can also be picked up on offer from various places.

cheers
Andy

I think Snugpak do some fairly inexpensive ones as well. I got one a few years ago, still going strong...

Another nod to Vango bags, they're priced very fairly. I have a Nitestar 350, it has a quality feel and is very comfortable, nice to lig around in. It's definately not a technical bag and may be heavier than you'd like for a wildcamp so look at Vango's Ultralite and Voyager range.

I have a blacks 'Quad3' bag I bought for about £40.....its not bad at all in warmer weather though I'd hesitate before taking it out in VERY late Autumn or VERY early spring.....(had it out in Glencoe last week and slept only in my shorts) .....and not too small for me at 6'2" and 17stone

I've also tried one of the 'mammut' supposedly 4 season bags from blacks......warm enough in winter (-10ish this february)....but jeez, talk about tight....definitely not for the bigger framed bloke
