Hope someone can help with this.

My Coleman Alpine stove seems to have a wee problem with gas actually reaching the burner. Some is getting though but even turned on full I just geta weak, flickery flame which goes out after a few seconds.

I presume there is a blockage somewhere, possibly more likely at the burner end. However, I have no idea how to clean it out. Any ideas???

PS - it runs on compressed gas cyclinders in case that makes a difference.

While we are on about stove problems I have an old Primus 3263, great wee stove, but it will no longer screw into the gas cannister. It appears the thread is worn - any suggestions other than buying a new stove?

you can try to pin prick the jet to see if that is the problem,
if you look underneath the burner rose there should be a couple of holes, and you should be able to see the jet,
you need a thin piece of wire to prick into the hole
if this isnt working you should be able to dismantle and clean, soak in hot soapy water

have you tried it on a different cylinder? i had a faulty cyclinder once

Graeme, Gearboy's right there's probably a bit of debris blocking the jet. I've just stripped mine to have a look. If you unscrew the burner head anticlockwise, the stove will separate into bits (while it's in bits you can stretch the spring a bit to make the stove a bit less wobbly). You'll be left with the hose attached to the a small brass part with the jet clearly visible on top. The jet can be unscrewed with a spanner, but you might get away with opening the control valve and blowing from that end of the pipe ie putting your mouth over the place that the gas cylinder screws to. Failing that, unscrew the jet and blow through it. I would advise against pushing wire through it to clear it as this can enlarge the hole. Not sure of the consequences of this, I've just heard that it's a bad idea or maybe I'm getting mixed up with cleaning the jet in a carburettor.
