any one use a ti mug to cook with and then drink with does the metal get to hot to drink from or do you just wait for it to cool off ?

Titanium loses heat instantly, I carry a insulated mug to pour the water into so I don't have to down my cuppa in one while it's still hot.

If you stretch one of those 'livestrong' silicon bracelets (ebay for a quid), it's a real lip saver!

An MSR Titan kettle takes a 100 gas, a stove, a firesteel and some hot/wet and the lid still goes on.
It is the greatest improvement to my life since the invention of buttons.

Anything that's too hot for my lips when it's in a titanium mug is too hot for me to drink in the first place. If I'm having tea, I won't drink it straight off the boil, but either let it cool (if black) or add milk (if available). By the time it's the right temperature for me to drink, it's in no danger of burning my lips. Early this morning I was enjoying a brew in my titanium mug between Raise and White Side, wondering why on earth I had the entire Helvellyn range to myself on a Bank Holiday weekend. Must be something to do with wild camping and getting an early start!

I second ptc*s comments, and until I can find the time to make a cosy I use a polar buff to wrap it in and keep the contents warm.

My Alpkit mug gets quite hot when on the stove but the metal cools down quickly once removed.

Yes. I've done wayfayers and pasta in mine no problem.

PTC, i thought titanium was slow to heat up and slow to cool down, or am I completey wrong on this one?

Actually, my MSR Titan mug quite often burns my lips. Either I have a faulty one or my lips have a low heat threshold.

decisions desisions do i pay more than double for the msr kettle or would i be able to manage with the alpkit mytimug

I need a 1 litre capacity pot, 400ml for a cuppa and between 300 - 500ml to rehydrate a meal, so my Alpkit mug is just used for my brewkit on day hikes. I have a Vargo 1.3 litre non stick pot that is 26 grams heavier than the Alpkit mug.

Talking of Vargo, where can I get their products here in blighty? I know hike-lite.co.uk do the TiLite mug
