i am going travelling for 12 months. The trip will be through remote places and some big cities.I like the look of the berghaus Mule Wheeled 100l. I was wondering if anyone has used it and if it has proven itself. I will not be trekking with the bag I choose but I need to carry it over some distances including steps.

Hi

I've had a 120l Mule for about 6 years. It's not got wheels so I'm not sure how relevant this is. It's fairly soft so sags a lot if not full. Carrying is done with a shoulder strap and handles but isn't very comfortable for long distances because of its size and position when walking. As a kit bag it has been very good but I wouldn't want to walk a long way with it.

The smaller your bag, the easier you'll travel!

Do you really need 100l? If you aren't trekking, and don't have camping gear, you could probably do a year's travelling on half that, and still have space for souvenirs.

Don't forget... you can buy cheap stuff locally and leave cheap stuff behind (with the locals!) to cope with changing conditions.

It may well be that you require this capacity for your travelling, but if you take the attitude that everything you need for a year has to start out in your bag then you'll have a very different trip.

Oh... if you're looking for rugged travel luggage I have never tried the Berghaus, but Trunk&Co by Samsonite are very good and smart enough to turn up to a nice hotel without looking like a grotty backpacker...

Now I'm envious... a year travelling... hope you have an absolutely amazing time!

John
