I rather fancy one for my daypack, the mesh side pockets and hipbelt pockets look rather attractive after using my Z55.
I know it's not the lightest, but with a 20 litre pack, you are not going to be carrying that much weight anyway.
Has anyone tried one? There is not much in the way of reviews in the usual places.
TIA Chris

Yep, I've had one a few years. It's an excellent well designed lightweight rucksack. It's capacity must be more than 20litres, I'm sure.
Anyway, the pros- lightweight, decent sized side pockets, very handy hip pockets, intregal whistle in chest strap (a neat little idea that many have copied since) & hydration pack compatible. It's also got a removable internal back support that can double as a sit mat, I tend to remove it when I need to go really lightweight as there's enough padding anyway.
Only con is that I got a tear in it fairly early doors, think it was from my trekking pole when I had it in the side compression pocket. I patched it up and had no probs since.

Thanks Lloyd, What is the sizing like? Would it suit a 6 foot frame (med torso length)? Chris

Hi Chris just spotted this thread, and having recently bought the amp light 20 I thought I'd contribute.
So far I've been really impressed with the pack. At 800g its not the lightest, but its a huge '20 litres' and you can also remove the pre-formed back support to lighten the pack further. Its probably the most comfortable pack I've owned, and still carries well when loaded up with winter stuff. Its also nice and narrow which should make it great for scrambling.
The only downside I have found is that it doesn't have anything to secure a camelbak tube to the shoulder straps. Although a bungie has solved that little problem.
All in all I've been well chuffed so far.

Oh yeah, I'm 6 foot too and it fits great. Quite a long back length for a small pack, which means the hip belt ends up in the correct position.
|
 |
Back length's fine for me 5,10 but should be ok for 6footer as Ben says.
The only downside I have found is that it doesn't have anything to secure a camelbak tube to the shoulder straps. Although a bungie has solved that little problem. Don't know if it's changed as my version a good few years old, but I find that the inbuilt bungees (on both shoulder straps) are fine for holding the hydration tube.

I had last season's model and it's got the bungy with toggles to secure the hydration tube with. Like everyone else i really love the pack and again for a six footer it's a good fit.

The amp light 20 is a new model for this year I think. The previous models were called 'amp' or 'amp race' etc. I'm assuming you guys have got those?

Ben on this diagram of the new 20 amp(image2) light it still has the bungy that you can put your hose through, then use the toggle at the bottom to tighten it. It is the bungy cord right next to the words sternum strap in the diagram(it has them both sides). I hope this helps with what i was trying to explain.

Thats actually the wrong picture of the amp light 20! The picture from behind is correct, but the diagram showing the harness is of another model of rucksack! The new amp light 20 (well mine anyway!) has only one zipped pocket on the waist belt and no bungees. You can see on image 1 that there is no zipped pocket on the left hip, but image 2 shows one there.

Sorry about that then Ben. it just seemed a bit strange that Macpac took them off as they work so well. I just thoght you didn't quite see what we ment.. Weird they are showing two different pictures.
|
 |
No worries, it confused me too when I was looking at their different packs! It does seem strange for them to not put bungees on, especially as the pack has an internal pocket for a bladder.

Ben you didn't buy your sack in a 1/3 off sale that the shop took too literally did you. That would explain the missing pocket and bungies. :-)

Hi there, I have an old Amp 20. It is a great pack but, for somebody with a long back, I find it too short and the hipbelt rides high. I mostly carry light loads so it isn´t that important, although it requires very bendy arms to get the water and maps out of the mesh pockets! I´m still looking for that great 20L sac... David

Thanks everyone for your help on this. I was going to go for a Golitre Ion, but I do fancy the extra features this pack offers.
I'm sold!
