I've been having a Google for something wider in the shoulder than the standard 80cms/31.5in, and all i could find was a Marmot Sawtooth at 35in. Great, but too long at 6.6ft.

Are there any manufacturers out there making wider down bags? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Calum

These guys http://www.phdesigns.co.uk/index.php?osCsid=273714a39e5b6311c5394bd841e4a060, PHD will make you any size or shape if you have the time to wait for it and the money of course.

I've tried out loads of lightweight down bags and found the close fit of most of them over-restrictive and claustrophic.

Exceptions that I've found that are cut comfortably larger are the Marmot Helium (I got the EQ - full zip version) which is available over here. (e.g. from theoutdoorshop.com)

My search for something a bit lighter and more suitable for summer took me to the Western Moutaineering Megalite. Not available over here but I imported one from the states with no problems. Good dollar exchange but need to budget an extra 40% or so to allow for vat/import tax and handling charges.

A cheaper, though heavier option is the Alpkit alpine dream series. I bought a 500 for my son and he's pleased as punch with it.

I another post I am trying to get some feedback on Valandré bags, but it seems besides being of excellent quality, they also are described as 'roomy' in the torso in the reviews I have read.

I would second Lucky Jim's comments about the Marmot Helium. A good bag, if on the warm side. At least, mine is.

Many thanks to you all for you replies to this post and i think i'll probably be having a wee chat with the people at Phdesigns.

 Cheers, Calum

I doubt you'll regret talking to them.  They've made two bags for me (Minims 600 & 800), to accomodate large cold feet and to give me a bit more room.  They're incredibly helpful and the kit is first rate.
