 I wonder if anyone can help? I seem to remember seeing a thread a while back where somone mentioned that they had a homemade knitted cover for a sigg bottle so that they could use it as a hot water bottle without burning themselves. Using the "super efficient OM" search function I am unable to find any mention of this Can anyone else find it or are there any knitting buffs out there who could supply me with a suitable pattern? Myself and claires ice cold feet would be very gratefull for any help. Sandy

Yeah I thought of that, will use a sock for now but I thought it would be nice to have a homemade garmant specificaly for the bottle though. I asked claire if she would/could knit one and she said she could do it but would need to know how many rows or cast offs or whatever? I dunno knitting speak is all greek to me?

 That would depend on the ply of the wool and the size of the needles!! A knitting pattern for hiking socks would do it.... omit the curved bit for the heel; pick the pattern up for 10p at the chassy shop

 Could you use something like this? I know it's supposed to be an insulated cover but I'm sure if you fill the bottle up with boiling water it'd get pretty warm. It might also be handy in hot weather too.

 why not just chuck it in your sleeping bag an hour before bed and take it out when you get in. I dont know about lady's but sleeping with a solid 12inch lump in your back cant be fun Its not much fun when its round the front lol  boom, boom. I do the same thing with those gel packs, push the button for heat and sling it in the sleeping bag and take it out when i get in, then boil it in the morning for 10 minutes with the left over water from coffee and its ready for the next night.  Every night we go backpacking I boil up some water and put it into the small platypus bottle and put that into a walking sock and give it to the missus, she loves her home made hot water bottle. Dno't bother buying something or taking something extra, just use a platypus and put it in a sock!

Thanks guys, I like your idea Jamie, as its not a solid 12" lump. We are going up to my grans caravan for a few days peace and quiet (havent decided whether to take the daysac and boots or not, we're going for a 'rest!'). Claire is an amateur knitter and will prolly try knit something for it now anyway while we are away. Ill post the results, Ive no doubt it will have a pom pom or two!
