Decathlon / Geonaute KeyMaze 300 GPS, here, here, and here (in French).

Anyone used one? Does it look to be of use for walkers?

I've never used GPS, but at £69 I'm tempted.

Just been looking myself and if it does what it says it looks like a better buy than a Garmin Geko 201.

I suppose it depends on what you wont of your GPS! This little package seems to fit the my criteria as most of the time it will be switched off as I will be using it as a backup unless in unfamiliar terrain, bad weather or dangerous ground. I go off on my own a lot and see it as an aid. SO its off to the nearest store soon and see if I can try it out in the car park!

I can't find much in the way of reveiws or information on the Web. I am supprised that it has not been reveiwed yet, or pehaps I can't find the right site.

If I find any info I will pass it on.

I don't know it, and the info on those links was pretty sparse, but a couple of points to beware of....

1. Make sure when you try it that it'll display co-ordinates in systems other than Latitude and Longitude - that's ok for recording your track and downloading to a PC, but absolutely useless for navigating on the ground. You'll want it to work with the Ordnance Survey GB system, and if you plan to use it abroad at all, other co-ordinate and datum systems like UTM/UPS and WGS84.

2. 7 routes and 200 waypoints may be plenty depending what you want to use it for, but if you ever want to fill it with pre-prepared routes for a multi-day trip to an area it may not be enough.

Not trying to put you off if it has those things though, even though I speak as a very satisfied user of a Geko 201 for the past 5 years (or however long ago they came out!).

I took a look at the manual:

1) it only does lat/long

2) you can't upload data to the unit from a PC, only download to the PC, or firmware update.

3) ... so no pre-preprepared routes at all.

Can't see why you'd buy one of these vs a much fuller-featured garmin foretrex 101 for the same money.

Latest firmware (2.70) now does UTM but still no GB National Grid - this is a serious weakness. In fact, I agree it is therefore useless for practical navigation. As the FAQ says that it will not do UTM I wonder if this is the beginning of a sensible change of heart?
