Can anyone recommend a lamp (or lantern?) to light up my tent? I would be particulalrly interested in one that ran off batteries rather than gas/fuel

thanks

Cerddinen, A single LED keyring torch works for me. I bought the Cyba-lite Micro and a firefly from www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk  both can be either hung or just placed in the tent and give plenty of light. For reading, the Alpkit headlamp for a fiver is perfect.

If unsure about a single LED providing enough light Tesco sell a keyring single LED torch for £1.99 so it won't break the bank to give this idea a try.Ifind id handy for day to day use and the battery seems to last ages.

I agree that LED lights are the way to go. The colour is slightly harsh but battery life is excellent.

On a low tech note, candle lanterns are quite good in small tents, because they provide a gentle light and a surprising amount of heat. Has to be admitted, tho, that they're a bit heavy and not brilliant for reading.

Argos do a range of larger lanterns, not backpacking though, with rechargable lead/acid cells built in. Very bright.

Single charge lasts many many days.
