Hi,

I am after advice and somewhere to purchase. I want to get some decent quality walking boots. I don't know what I am looking for or what 'features' to get. Is there anywhere near Leicester that sells them and won't rip me off etc. I need a full boot as I find mid tend to cut into my ankle. Budget is around £100

Will be doing mild gentle walking in the lake district and around leicestershire.
I have small (7) but wide feet.
I weigh around 115kg so need something sturdy.
I have some mid boots/shoes and these really irratiate my ankles as they seem to cut across the bone on the side of my ankles, so full boots would be preferable I guess.
I have no preference as to leather or 'canvas' though I would think leather will take a while to break in...
I would like to go to a store where I can get unbiased info locally (within 40miles?)

Cheers
Rich

Try Raichle Scout.  They are fairly wide and and usually available around £85/£90.    Millets do a cheap(ish) leather boot called Skiddaw about £50 which are wide as well.  It's all about fit though.  Do you needs boots or would you consider shoes?

try lockwoods in leamington spa if that kind of distance is ok, really helpful, and they measure your feet properly

meindl and karrimor are a little bit wider than others.

I would consider shoes, but I want to protect my ankles

has anyone out there come across the raichkle mt guide goretex ms  ? I've tried all the usual web sites in cluding Raichkle but to no avail! I've just obtained a pair and wondered how they compared to the mt trail - which had a pretty good rave review on this website by jon. I'm not to sure about the quality. I've read some reviews of raichkle boots falling apart after relatively little use.Mine are still returnable and on trial in the house only.

Especially the Raichle Mt Envy boots at half price (£75).

many thanks guys - decided against the Raichle after trying on the Meindl Air Revo 3.1 at the Cotswold sale - down to £99! Will be testing them in the Lakes later this month.

Being very new to gear I cant really comment on differant gear, however!

I to have wide feet and spent a bit of time trying on differant boots a few months back and ended up with some meindl Bergen MFS. Very comfortable and seem to have a decent amount of support, albeit on the small amount fo use so far.
