Hi all.

A question for anyone that owns - or knows - the workings of the Techtrial range of altimeter watches. The reason I ask is that in researching the various pros and cons of the Suunto range I've found out that the Altimax and Vector's altimeter and barometer functions both work at the same time, whereas the Suunto Observer (whilst far more expensive) is able to lock the altimeter or barometer function when the other is being used ie. if you're wanting to use just the altimeter then the watch will interpret all pressure changes as a change in height. Or, if you're stationary you can lock the altimeter so that it wont wander off when the watch detects a change in pressure due to weather changes. Still following this?....

What I'd like to know is - how does the Techtrail range work? Is it the same as either of these options or something else?

Also. The Suunto Altimax and Vector display altitude in 5m intervals whereas the Techtrail and Suunto Observer display it in 1m intervals. Any thoughts on that? Do you need 1m intervals when using OS maps with contours in 10m intervals?

I've found for UK use that 5m accuracy is fine, as in our hills the overlying pressure tends to change too fast for 1m accuracy anyway!

I've recently bought an Observer, after several years with a Metron (Vector essentially, + HRM) & whilst I've not used it in the hills properly yet, the "lock" function seems useful, as long as I remember to switch between altimeter & barometer when I need to.

I'm not up to date on the Techtrail range, but I would have thought they would mention if they had a barometer/altimeter lock on them., & I couldn't see anything on their website.
