I recently sent my 2-3 year old Garmin E-Trex to Garmin (UK) for repairs. It had packed up and just stopped working after spending many months swinging off rucksacks, gunwhales of my mirror and the front bungees of my sea kayak. I recently recieved a brand new E-Trex by DHL at no additional cost!!! Well done Garmin, I think a job well done needs praising.

Oakley's good too. Apparently, if you break a pair - no matter how old - you can just buy an 'extended warranty' for a tenner and they'll replace the glasses!

dont even need a tenner. They replaced my wiretap frames when i bent them to hell, amongst other stuff i had done!

How old were they? I was pointing out that'll replace stuff even when they're well out of normal warranty

over a year! Also sent me the nose pads for my XX sunnys when the model i have wasnt made in that colour anymore

Yep Oakley will still repair stuff FOC even well its 4 or 5 yrs old. Which is excellent IMO.

Can anybody out there help me? I'm new to etrex gps and I would like to change the map datum from 1:50 000 British Grid to 1:25 000 British Grid. Does anybody have this info?
Show/hide user stats
Over the last month or so, my etrex went haywire with inaccuracies of over 150m! Apparently it was the Gulf War. Anyone else have this problem?
Show/hide user stats
I know a few people who've been inaccurate with their usual locations due to the gulf war as well...

Nothing to do with their GPS mind you.

Gary not sure what you mean? I have the summit (yellow one) and in 'setup' you can choose Units, British Grid, Ord Survey GB, Metric, North Ref', and Variance at 0. This gives me 10 fig grid references.

Plenty accurate!

Does anyone have this interface cable for the computer and do you use it with Anquet or the like? I am thinking of getting one but they seem expensive.

Gary. The Grid references are the same nomatter which OS maps you looks at.

well said Drew..I also have the interface cable and they work fine but they are expensive

I have had experience with Garmin and they are great!

Really customer service focused, they won some award for it in 2008. Glad they are still performing!

Philip, I don't know about yours, but my e-trex interface cable is just a standard mini-usb with a garmin logo on it. I've used cables from digital cameras and portable hard drives without any problem. If yours is the same, look at buying a standard mini-usb which will be a lot cheaper than the garmin one.
Er Dan, I think "Philip" may well have moved on from the Etrex by now, that post was 6 years ago!

LOL,

I love the Garmin stuff but then thats all ive used so i am bound to say it. Not on commission yet but if i keep leaving posts like this perhaps they will respond to my letters
