Waterproof Budget Waterproofs

Are there any relatively cheap waterproofs (less than £60) that actually keep the rain out? It may say its waterproof on the label but I have bought many waterproof jackets and trousers over the years but most have a very short life as they simply don't keep the rain out. The only thing that I have found that keeps me dry in the rain is my completely unbreathable PVC anorak.

Have you found anything that does the job?

Richard, if it's any use, webtogs are currently selling Montane Atomic DT trousers for 55 quid - http://www.webtogs.co.uk/Montane_Atomic_DT_Pants_111.html

I've not tried them, but hope to order a pair next week.

It depends what you mean by budget, Craghhopper Pakka Sport Jacket £50 or less online, Pakka overtrousers £30 or less online. I've got Regatta exert overtrousers impulse bought in a sale and they have been surprisingly good.

Navy Gore-Tex jacket for £30. Not tried it myself. Have an army gore tex one, not exactly a tailored fit and the hood is big enough to hide an elephant, but it keeps me dry. Lives in the car boot now that I have gone up market, but if its cheap you are after.

Berghaus Aquafoil works very well. Unfortunately you would have to fork out 35 for trousers and 40 to 50 quid, for a jacket but you might find a good deal on ebay or in a sale. I've had a pair of RG1 overtrousers for nearly 10 years and have never needed anything better.

Regatta waterproofs are always worth a look at,big range of models at a reasonable price, also Keela and Outdoor Scene are reasonable at the price.I suppose a lot depends on what sort of walking you are doing.

I have seen some cheap (around £30) Lowe Alpine Triple Point jackets at www.addictionsports.co.uk
