Hi OM climbers,

I have seen a nice price (26 Euros) on a Petzl Tetrax in my local sports shop in France but so far nobody here has reviewed it. I already have a very comfortable fully-adjustable sit harness (Beal Aero Classic) - in fact it is so adjustable that my wife can also use it without difficulty. So I thought the Petzl might be a good second harness for me for occasional use when climbing with her (French sport climbing routes of easy grade... not too much sitting around and not much gear to carry) or for winter mountain walking when a low-bulk harness without much padding is a plus.

So, fire away if any of you have used one or own one; recommended or detested? This particular shop doesn't have the facility to test the harness but it does fit me perfectly well.

incidentally,

the Petzl catalogue for 2008 has also just come out. As I am also in the market for a helmet (still umming and arrghing since summer last year!) I noticed that this could be a good option:

Altios helmet : comes in between the as a more robust alternative to the Meteor but more modern design than the Elios.

Has this been spotted in the flesh by anyone here?

Seriously, folks, I feel it is about time I called a stop to this flurry of responses.

Actually, I went back to the store wearing my running kit and tried on the harness again. It was then that I realised that the harness (Petzl size 2) was just fractionally too big for me and that, at a squeeze, I could almost pass the belt over my hips. So I won't be getting it, and the Tetrax has been discontinued anyway.

As for the Altios helmet... I'll wait and see.

Oh... and it turned out that the Tetrax was selling for an rrp of £45 so the price was right(about £20). But safety first, kids...
