I've tried running the Quo Mobile software on an HP iPAQ HX4700, under 2003SE (which fully satisfies the PDA requirements listed on the QUO website (mapyx.com)).

However, the software CONSTANTLY fails - either crashing completely, or locking out the PDA, requiring a re-boot. When it first crashed, on re-booting the PDA and restarting QUO, it reported that it was a corrupt install and required re-installing. This I did (three times!) before the software would start again. It ran for 3 minutes, then crashed.

I've tried to email QUO support - and get no reply (other than a server message saying delivery has beed delayed). There is no phone number on their site, therefore they are impossible to contact.

I've asked for my money back (£119 for the QUO Pro software, 50k maps of GB, and QUO Mobile) - but naturally, have heard nothing (apart from the server response that the email delivery has been delayed).

I should of had my doubts, when after placing my order (paid in full via PayPal), I received NO confirmation from QUO (only from PayPal), and no instructions on how to download the software I'd paid for! It was only after emailing them (getting the 'delayed' message, and re-emailing them, that I was sent a link to download the software from). On that, be warned - when you originally enter your email address and password in order to download the software - be careful to remember the password you use, and make sure you've typed it in correctly (no re-key verification) - you'll need it to activate the software once you've managed to download it!

The PC version of the software might work perfectly well (difficult to tell as as my PC is a desktop it's not that easy to use as a GPS mapping device!) - but if you plan to use that to drive your PDA, be prepared to be disappointed and out of pocket. 

Has anyone managed to get this software working on a PDA (especially if it's an HX4700)?

Sorry you've had that experience Gary. All I can say is that I've had success with the PC and PDA product and also a lot of helpful and timely support from them when necessary. They've been very good at answering questions and resolving any problems.

I know it's not really an excuse but I think they're a pretty small outfit so it's possible they get stretched at times. 

It was a bit of a faff to get Quo Mobile running. It needed an additional bit of software called Port Splitter to resolve some kind of port-usage conflict (I'm not technical!)

(Btw, my PDA is an HTC X7500, not HP)

Many thanks for you response - good to hear you're having better luck than me! Incidentally, is your PDA running 2003SE or Windows Mobile 5?

I must confess to being very disappointed - I very much wanted to like the software. Also, the ability to buy single 25K maps was very appealing. I tried a demo of Fugawi - and although that seemed to work OK (after initial problems with a corrupt FugDBVolume file!) - I much preferred the appearance of Quo.

I have now had an email from the director of Mapyx advising that a refund is being arranged, which is good - although I'd have much rather the software had worked for me.

I will give it one final go - this weekend I plan to hard reset the PDA, to make sure there's nothing contending with Quo, then re-installing everything to see how that goes - it should also make sure it has all the memory it requires. 

I must say, I had no problems at all getting the software loaded initially, or recognising the bluetooth GPS device - worked like a charm. My problems all began 2 minutes after it started running.

I think you're right that they're probably a small outfit, but it does get frustrating when the only contact with them is via email, and emails constantly fail, getting bounced for non delivery.

(btw - there should only be one post - submitting the first one I had a failure message. I have emailed support to ask the other be removed. Me an computers eh!)
