I think Inov8 do some pretty nice light weight packs and they use a cool hydration system with the bladder in the waist belt. Not really a fan of superlight weight gear though I tend to just break it.

Ahh, careful polar bear. Dont what ever you do question the robustness of light weight kit on here. I did and felt the hand of god (Chris Townsend) decend and give me a clip around the ear!

The issue here to me seems to me that it's not just a case of stating a weight and then variations in manufacture etc bump it up, the bag is quoted as heavier on field and treks site which confirms my suspicion that salomon are giving out the correct weight. whether or not other companies are doing this i don't know. i really would like to give the ion a try, my other golite bags are great and the lack of any pockets or compression straps will make it much more comfortable to sleep on! i don't think they are available over here yet. not being a runner or biker, my gear doesn't get as bashed around.

or... just seen the exped drypack pro on ptc's blog which is a pretty radical rethink of the whole concept.

If you like the look of that, why not try one of the alpkit gourdons, same concept but slightly heavier and undoubtedly cheaper.
