Has any one had boots resoled and if so where do you recomend? Have a pair of bergaus boots comfy as anything tho soles have been conaminated with silicon sprays from a prievious job making them slippery as anything in the wet so wondering about getting them resoled... have found this feet first so would be interested in other peoples view on resoling boots.

I've had several pairs of boots resoled by Feet First Chesterfield Ltd, as per the link you've found. I can recommend them.

I resoled a pair of Scarpa SLs a few years ago and basically the uppers were too tired and couldnt take the stiffness of the new soles so they fell to pieces on the first walk! Subsequently i got Meindl to resole a pair of their boots and they have been fine. I think its worth it more expensive leather/winter boots but perhaps less so for cheaper fabric ones...by the time you pay postage both ways, soles etc you can be looking at £50 which is sometimes not far off the cost of a new boot

A few years ago I had a pair of boots resoled by LSR. They did a good job and gave some more years life. Before the new soles wore out my foot shape changed (I dont know why) and the old shoes became very uncomfortable so I had to get new boots. LSR's work didnt affect the boot comfort, it was my feet changing shape.

Silicon contamination Have you tried removing the silicon. Try a solvent something like meths to start with, if that doesn't try something like Tricoethelene. Nothing to lose by trying.

I normally get my Scarpa SL's resoled, once. The last few occasions I have used Tiso's local shop. They send them to their shop in Leith, Edinburgh where they are repaired. Costs around £45 but chepaer than buying at new pair at around £150. After that I get them sent off to Romania as the uppers don't normally last more than one resole.

But please make sure you first read the Safety Data for "Tricoethelene" (trichloroethylene?), especially the toxicology and the need for personal protection.

Yes. Good point peewit, I should have mentioned that. Still my guess that something tamer will sort it though

Cheers for the feedback.... G-ject think the silicon is a little inground(soaked into) the rubber to get off with solvents.... will see how long or if the new boots to break in or if i get on with them if not the old ones will be off for a new sole.

DW-A guy who posts on the Ramblers Forum has had two pairs of Scarpa boots (Mantas) done by Lancashire Sports Repairs (Burnley) and seems pleased with the outcome. LSR, Feet First (Chesterfield) and Dickinsons Shoes Services (Newcastle) were listed on the Scarpa website but this info is about a year old and I haven't checked it. Altberg seem to have a good reputation but don't repair some Scarpa models.

Try biological washing liquid (for clothes) first ,scrub in with an old tooth brush .it will break down the silicon and leave a sticky sole .Have done it ,it works.

LSR's work didnt affect the boot comfort, it was my feet changing shape. If your feet got bigger /longer your arches probably dropped. If your feet got smaller then if you were doing alot of exercise then they might have tightened up the tendons and muscles in your feet. If they just got wider then spending alot of time wearing sandels can allow them to spread.

See what your local shoe repairers can offer. Some years ago I had a pair of Brasher Hillmasters re-soled by a local cobbler who fitted Vibrams. Soles outlived the uppers.
