Tired of searching - someone help me find a good trekking tent!

I had kind of settled on a Vango Tornado 150 (2007 model, they don't make the 150 this year, only the larger 200). The wee Tornado 150 seems like a great all-rounder, for UK weather and ultimately for some trekking I want to do later this year, in warmer climates such as South America. At about 2.5kg, it's not the lightest tent of course, but it sounds very comfortable and I'm happy to carry an extra kilo for that extra comfort and also to make it suitable in the UK when I need it.

But you know what? The more I look, the harder the final decision becomes. The problem is that it's kind of hard to look at a tent on, say, Vango's website, and really work out what conditions it's suitable in. Vango's website doesn't even say what seasons it's suitable for. I find it hard as an amateur to know what's suitable for what climate. My budget is around £100-£200 which isn't much but hopefully I can get something decent.

My guess is that you guys will tell me that I'm asking for too much by asking for a tent suitable for UK and warmer countries but as I said, I'm willing to carry an extra kilo if it means I get that flexibility.

So really, any advice, hints, tips are welcome. Any other sites I could look at to see what other trekking enthusiasts have used on their adventures?

Thanks for any help, I will sincerely appreciate it and I promise to let you know what I get in the end and upload a review and photos.

It's easy to imagine that you'll be happy carrying the extra kilo, but in reality, your back, legs, shoulders and hips might not be too happy. £200 is a reasonable budget, have you considered the Terra Nova Laser Competition (1 person) or Laser (2 person), depending on whether you want a 1 or 2 person tent.

Gavin, have a google and you'll find the 150 available online, and at a discount.  As regards lightness versus comfort, it depends if you want to prioritise your camping time or your walking time: you choose, you lose!

With a budget of £200, could you stretch it a bit for an Akto (£255 from Alpenstock)? 1.5 kg is better than 2.5kg

1.5 Kg is better than 2.5 Kg, but on the other hand there's a lot less space...  I never got that interested in Aktos, even when I was solo camping, as I preferred to have the extra space and doors in a Spacepacker at 1.9 Kg.

If budget stretch is an option I'd factor in the Sapcepacker as a possibility (my OM review is here).  It will take 2 if required without being too contrived, which an Akto won't really do. £233 from Alpenstock.

Depends how old the Akto is.  The original was listed at 1.7 Kg but was subsequently fettled a few years ago with a lighter fly fabric, giving the current listed weight of 1.5 Kg.  There is always some variation between samples, but I very much doubt that Hilleberg would have got away with marketing such a popular tent 25% under its real weight without the trades descriptions folk having some Rather Serious Words with them...
