Great another Paramo/Altberg devotee, both products ranges are superb. Just sent my batterd Meindl borneo's for re-sole, they do a proper job at Altberg not like some of the repairers I can mention.Have a look at www.whalleyoutdoor.co.uk I get my Paramo stuff here they do a good discount and will price match other Paramo retailers.

Thanks for the tip. I'm after a Explorer top in black to go with my black fuera smock. Wonder if that would give me the same protection as a velez but with more flexibility? I have a velez in black but just musing as one cannot have too much kit!!!

It doesn't give the same protection as the Velez as it doesn't have the pump liner, but saying that,it does offer pretty good shower protection, if you want full waterproofing you'd have to get a Paramo fleece under your Fuera, no, one definitely can't have too much kit.

I have just returned some Meindl Burma boots as they were hurting my ankles. I have now bought some Alt-Berg Fremingtons and they are extremely comfortable and light. They are only a three season boot though. I am very pleased with them after my first couple of walks. I also have Paramo pants and a cascade jacket. Great all of them.

Hi Altberg here - just to say we'll be doing a boot fitting advice session at the Paramo Covent Garden store, Friday 12 and Saturday 13 December 2008 for any Londoners interested. We'll also have our new Trekking boot - the Tethera - launched early 2009 to show and hopefully get feedback on. Altberg

Andrew, That's not good enough! We need more details about the Tethera. For a start, is it lined with some horrible membrane? In all seriousness, I wish you luck with the new boot.

Altberg are ace. The missus has the hardest feet to fit on the face of this planet, im sure! however, we took the trip to richmond and now she has a pair of boots that fit like a dream. Its one more less nag when were out on the hills....... I have iused their defender and desert boots, and find them extremely good too! Half_viking

I am wearing in a pair of Altberg North Fell Micro's as we speak. These were custom made for me. Modest cost (no more expensive than an off the shelf pair of comparable boots). Seem to be well made and the shop staff were most accommodating. Best of all they have no membrane in them. Well worth trying.

Peter - delighted you like the North Fell Micros ! On the Tethera, our new walking boot, it will have a one piece leather tongue/upper, sympatex bootee lining & vibram sole - more supportive than the Fremington, less 'full on' mountain walking than the Mallerstang. Still working on final pricing but with things as they are probably £145/£150 Andrew

it seems i've turned into a complete anorak!(paramo of course). i've just been to whalley warm and dry for a pair of new boots. i was hoping to get some sale ones, but after spending a considerable time measuring my feet and telling me of a problem i didn't know i had i was recomended some altberg fremingtons. after trying these and the ones i'd gone to look at it it was no contest, the altbergs were so comfortable. i got a pair of expensive socks and some wax thrown in as well. they recommended walking round in the boots in the house for a few days but they felt so good i walked home in them. it was supposed to be 5 miles but i took a diversion up onto wiswell moor to get some more up and downhills in. i was pretty determing to see if they were going to rub or give me a blister but after diverting up a couple more hills on the way home i gave up and had done just over 9 miles, not an epic walk but enough to show up any problems. very comfortable straight out of the box and an excellent fitting service from the shop. slightly more than i'd expected to pay but well worth it.

Another thumbs up for Whalley Warm and Dry from me too. Having bought a couple of bits mail order, and having heard and read good things about their boot range and fitting skills, I took the plunge and went over last week for a proper fitting. It was a complete eye-opener. Have to say though that John really seemed to know his stuff and the attention to detail was better than I'd received anywhere else in my entire lifetime. He also threw in the wax and half price insoles (that now mean I can wear a smaller, much better fitted boot) and was more than happy to do a little stretching of the leather to ensure a perfect fit. Granted, I haven't hit the fells in them yet, but around the house they feel tremendous (Alt-Berg Fremlingtons) and I can't wait to put them to work. My well abused Merrells look set for retirement!

I bought a pair of Fremington Altberg boots a few months ago, i've walked over 60 miles in them, hoping to bed them in,while the quality is good, they are very uncomfortable, the soles are very hard, slippery on wet stones, inside they are very hard on the feet, after 6 miles walking i'm glad to get them off. I bought them because some years back i bought a pair of Altberg motor cycle boots, they were very comfortable, you could walk in them all day, they had SKYWALK soles, they are still going strong today.

Have just been to the Altberg factory and yes, their shop is till open, well it's part of the factory so there are always staff there. When you go in the shop one of the fitters steps off the factory line to assist so you know you are getting someone knowledgable. Tried the whole range on and eventually decided on the Mallerstangs. I have wide flattish feet and big heel spurs (fitter offered to grind my heels down in the factory lol ). Had a quick fascinating tour of the factory then wandered off around delightful local area for two hours while they modified, steamed and stretched my new boots based on the seperate profiles of each foot. Another fitting when I returned and I now feel like I have a custom hand made boot, they fit my odd shaped feet perfectly. Constant drifting in of soldiers from nearby Catterick garrison selecting their boots while I was there so they must be well respected. Well worth the experience and the round trip from Surrey considering these things will last a good ten years.

After years of procrastination and cheap fell boots, I took the plunge and bought a pair of Alt Berg Mallerstangs - they are truly FAB. The only time I have had wet feet was when the water came in through the top (once when I misjudged the depth of the beck one early morning walk and a second when my waterproof trousers funnelled it down the top). Regular (weekly) treatment with Leder Gris and careful drying (left by the front door, where it is cool) seems to be paying divis, as there is no sign of cracking, yet. I have had 'job' issue Alt Berg boots - I used the Clubman Roadster motorcycle boots for patrolling the M6 motorway and the mountain passes and country lanes of the English Lake District for quite a lot of years. They never, ever, ever leaked, not even once, and I rode through some horrendous weather in them. These boots were bespoke made and fitted excellently from the very first day

I have very wide and difficult feet. I despaired of ever getting boots to fit. Men's boots are far to wide in the ankle. I went to Peglers in Arundel and they got me a pair of Altberg Fremington. I had to break them in but found them a good fit and comfortable. It was wonderful to find a pair of leather boots that I liked wearing.
