Perfect Walking Trousers

I need new hillwalking trousers. Can anyone suggest something that fits the following  over-specific list of demands?

-Zip-offs, which can be converted without having to take off your size 11.5 boots

-DWR finish or similar, so they're shower-resistant

-Quick drying material.

In the past I used Terra Montane Convertibles, which are excellent except for the fact that (despite ankle zips) they can't be got off or on over my boots, so they're not really too 'convertible'.

Any suggestions appreciated in my quest for trouser perfection.

Hi spiff,

I can't comment on using them with size 11.5s but I highly recommend TNF Paramount convertibles, superb troos...I have two pairs...lucky boy !

best of luck !

I too have some Paramount convertibles and I can convert them wearing my size 10 Scarpa SLs with no problem, so I reckon 11.5s could be ok.

They're quick drying and are a fairly sturdy fabric so dont immediately get soaking wet, though they are by no means water-resistant really (though neither are the Montanes you mentioned).

The only gripe I have with them is that they have quite long legs. Im 5ft 9ish, 32 waist and wear a medium, short leg, which is fine at the waist but the legs nearly drag along the floor.

I agree with Ben, however you can get them in a shorter length, I'm 5" 7, 32" waist, have a pair of med short and they are a perfect fit....

I've got a pair of Paramounts and they are nice. I've also got another pair of TNF convertibles, a lighter material than the Paramounts and more of a cargo trouser with pockets lower on the thighs, not ankle zips mind!

For less pleasant weather I use a lightweight TNF Apex trouser (not convertible)!

Thanks all, bit of a consensus there, so 've ordered some of those TNF paramount ones. Fingers crossed, will post again once I've tried them out.
