NPC, thanks for the correction of my spelling. Not sure what the hell I was on when I typed ascetic. I knew it was wrong and was going to spellcheck before I posted, but then got side tracked and sent it before checking.
We'll have to disagree on the close fitting trousers though. My reason for closer fitting trousers is not to trap all of that insulating air. It also allows faster wicking of sweat etc away from the body. Cats may not sweat in the heat, but I certainly do!
On the whole, I prefer close fitting for all year round as they keep cleaner and look better. The alternative of walking like John Wayne is only recommended when in crampons.
I think we may disagree on the seasons too. I work with MLTUK seasons - winter means snow and ice, summer means not winter. Therefore cold, rainy January days are still summer days (also I would be out of remit if I took a group into the hills on a non-summer day, so I try to maximise the definition of summer).
